aw shucks! recently we blogged that the much anticipated mohawk bend would be opening its doors on june 28th. unfortunately, the gastropub has been delayed until further notice. lemme tell you, i got a personal tour of the mohawk space over the weekend and it is INSANE. i think it’s gonna be the best place to eat and drink in town, especially for vegans! there are like 8 million beer taps, two cask pumps, a dedicated vegan fryer, and a gigantic dedicated vegan pizza oven! gaaaaaah, i have never been so excited about a place opening before! here’s the official/unofficial word from team mohawk:

well, this is quite distressing. madeleine bistro, our favorite vegan restaurant in all the land, took to their facebook page at 3am to announce their closure. say it ain’t so!
in a note titled “madeleine bistro closing details”, they wrote…

March 24th, 2011LA restaurants, nite moon cafe
sooooooo….5 months ago we reported that nite moon cafe, one of our favorite hollywood vegetarian spots, was moving down the street to a new location. that’s right, from de longpre right behind the arclight all the way over to highland and de longpre. well apparently their new restaurant/yoga studio is up and running, and vegan scraps sent us a quick bite report to prove it. she sampled a plethora of vegan baked goods, all of which were apparently awesome. i can’t wait to get over to nite moon and try all this stuff, plus eat some food off their normal menu. check it out, folks:
After a delicious vegan lunch today in West Hollywood, I was left craving vegan goodies…Nite Moon Cafe came to mind! Let me start off by saying that this review is all about the vegan baked goods at Nite Moon. I had never been there, but I gave them a call and they told me they had tons of vegan baked goods, so my decision was made.

December 31st, 2010fatty's & co, LA restaurants
nooOOOooOo! could this be true?! eat/drink/see eagle rock reports that today marks fatty & co.’s last day in business.
we will miss the vegan chartreuse and all the other wonderful food at fatty's!
we have been fans of fatty’s for quite awhile, and we even named the meatless restaurant as one of our top vegetarian picks in 2009, so we are devastated by this news. the cafe has been scaling back its hours for the past few months though, so i really can’t say we’re too surprised…

October 23rd, 2010LA restaurants, nite moon cafe
…down the street!
nite moon cafe is moving to de longpre and highland!
i was out and about in hollywood yesterday, and i noticed this banner on a building near the corner of de longpre and highland. apparently the vegetarian restaurant nite moon cafe, and the yoga studio that comes along with it, are moving down the street from their de longpre/vine location to highland avenue.
bummer that they won’t be so close to the arclight anymore, but at least they won’t be too far away. if you haven’t eaten at nite moon yet, get over there! it’s really good. check out our past review!

August 17th, 2010LA restaurants, madeleine bistro
in a constant attempt to keep you updated on the ever-changing situation of one of LA’s best vegan restaurants, madeleine bistro, i’m bringing you some news that they posted on facebook and twitter yesterday. apparently, they are closing for the fall. so act fast, and go eat there.
from twitter.com/madeleinebistro
last time we posted on the tarzana restaurant, we told you that they were temporarily closed for brunch, and only open friday – sunday night. well that’s changed as well. madeleine bistro is now open for brunch on sundays only (10am – 3pm) and for dinner on friday, saturday, and sunday (5pm – 9pm). i’m not sure how long this will last, as they say, they are closing for the fall….so if you have a hankering for chef dave’s food, you should get on it.
madeleine bistro did post a more hopeful note on their facebook page, saying:
make a reservation to visit us soon… we will be closing our tarzana location for renovations and expansion plan this fall.. stay tuned for exact date and details… thanks for your support!!
expansion plan?!?! sounds good to me. not sure if this is the new rumored location in eagle rock, but i sure hope so.
so that’s all i know at the moment. brunch is back, sunday only. they will be closing for fall, but hopefully not for long. i will keep you guys updated as i hear more info, but everyone should follow madeleine bistro on twitter and friend them on facebook for the latest news.
oh, and by the way, i have been looking for an excuse to show you this new breakfast sandwich that just got added to madeleine’s brunch menu. it’s so good! a bagel mcmuffin thingy with vegan cheese, tofu, and tempeh bacon. nommers.

August 6th, 2010LA restaurants, madeleine bistro
hey everyone: listen up! this is a HUGE madeleine bistro update for this weekend that you are gonna wanna know about. hot off the press we’ve got NEW hours, a NEW menu, and a NEW poll for you to fill out…but sorry, no new location yet, as we hinted at earlier.
here’s what’s up with madeleine this weekend!
1.) NO BRUNCH THIS WEEKEND. sorry folks, but madeleine is renovating and improving their current brunch menu and need a few weeks off to get it ready to go. they will still be open for dinner though, so don’t miss out on that.
2.) NEW MENUS for this weekend! not only is there a brand new dessert on board (pictured above), but the tasting menu sounds incredible. the new dessert is chef dave’s version of “deconstructed s’mores,” basically chocolate ganache, graham crackers, and vegan marshmallow fluff. i’ve tasted it, and i can say it’s one of the best vegan desserts i’ve ever had. EVER. the tasting menu this week sounds just as epic: a 5 course meal of bisque, “re-imagined” beet tartare, arborio-crusted mushrooms, cheese cannolis, and fig perdu. read all about the new menu here. you won’t wanna miss it.
3.) lastly, VOTE FOR MADELEINE BISTRO in the vegnews veggie awards! they were nominated for best restaurant (page 1), and for best chef (page 6). honestly, they deserve it. and we deserve to see LA represented FINALLY in the veggie awards. DO IT. also, please vote for quarrygirl in the best blog category! thx. xo.
that’s all i got for now. bummer that madeleine is closed for brunch this weekend, but i guess that means i better make it there for dinner. s’mores, anyone?!?!

July 21st, 2010LA restaurants, veggie grill
hey los angeles, if you like to help animals and enjoy tasty food (who doesn’t?!?!), then you gotta hit up the 8000 sunset veggie grill location on the evening of THURSDAY JULY 22nd, and let them know you are dining to support ARME.
from 5pm-11pm on 07/22/10 when you purchase food or beverages (take-out as well!) and mention ARME, veggie grill will donate 50% of your purchase to the organization! in case you haven’t heard of ARME, they are an incredible non-profit organization that strives to end the suffering of animals through rescue and education. they not only do hands-on rescue, but have made award-winning animal rights documentaries such as skin trade and behind the mask. this organization has already made an enormous difference for animals, but they’ve spent a huge amount of money on outreach and film production and need our help. they even have a new documentary in the works, so let’s MAKE IT HAPPEN.
we all know veggie grill as one of the best places in town to get hearty vegan grub (i HIGHLY suggest the new daiya cheese nachos and el dorado!), and now you can help animals even more just by enjoying their delicious food…with no extra cost to you. go to veggie grill thursday night and mention ARME. there is honestly no easier way to help animals just by eating a tasty dinner.
here is the flyer. check it out, but you only need to MENTION ARME for the discount to count.
huge props to veggie grill sunset for making this happen. we love you, and all the new menu items ROCK…even though you took away the caesar salad. :/
so i will see you all there, right?!
