November 18th, 2011LA restaurants, tony's darts away, vegan events
this is way too good to pass up! mark your calendars, people. on monday november 21st our favorite pub, tony’s darts away, is donating half the proceeds from all vegan sausages all day to the beagle freedom project.
seriously, don’t miss this chance to eat the best vegan food in burbank and help out one of our favorite charities. and bring lots of friends! if you aren’t familiar with the beagle freedom project, they focus on saving dogs from labs—these are animals that have spent their entire lives in a cage. the proceeds from the event at tony’s will go directly to the SPANISH 41 rescue: the rescue of 41 beagles from a laboratory in spain…

November 3rd, 2011golden road brewing, LA restaurants, mohawk bend, tony's darts away
Seemingly, barely a day goes by that the Tony Yanow empire doesn’t further the cause of craft beer and vegan food in LA.
Just two weeks ago we were celebrating the opening of spanking new Golden Road brewery in Atwater Village, and not long before that we were chowing down on a vegan burger at the opening night of Echo Park’s Mohawk Bend. Of course, we’ve raved many times about the neighborhood bar Tony’s Darts Away in Burbank with its energetic crowd, great beer selection and plentiful vegan food options.
Frankly, we’d been looking for an excuse to visit all three businesses sequentially: A “Tony crawl”, if you will, for a while, and the final nail was placed in the coffin when we heard that Tony’s Darts Away had not only opened its patio up but was also serving LA’s ONLY vegan brunch with beer on tap.
So last Saturday we set out to eat and drink as much of Tony’s offerings as we could. To begin, we opened up Tony’s Darts Away, ordering both vegan breakfast options, as well as a couple of glasses of Golden Road Hefeweizen to wash down the food…

breaking news! tony’s darts away, LA’s vegan-friendly craft beer bar, launched a new menu today of signature sausages. the old deal was, customers would pick a sausage with up to 4 toppings and order at the counter. that’s still an option, but now TDA has introduced 6 custom combinations to help you out and make ordering easier. the new menu isn’t posted on their site yet, but we’ve got a snap of it. you’re welcome. check it out…

dudes, TDA has been rockin’ the vegan specials lately…and it’s our mission to try them ALL! they seem to have a new one every few days (sometimes even more often than that)—way to keep us vegans on our toes. my all time favorite tony’s special remains the seitan french dip, but here are the latest two offerings…
this week tony’s has been offering a vegan buffalo po boy made with a field roast country style sunflower cutlet and frank’s red hot sauce. our correspondent brittany ate it the other day, and sent us this photo along with a thumbs up.
last week was the vegan philly cheesesteak, a bun stacked with celebration roast, daiya mozzarella, peppers, and grilled onions…

it’s my life’s mission to make it through all the rotating vegan specials at tony’s darts away, and i’m doing a damn good job. i was among the first angelenos to feast on the wheatloaf sliders when they came out in 2010, i’ve sampled the fleeting pickle chips, and i’m no stranger to the marinara “meatball” sub. after all that though, i can say with confidence that the “not so french dip” is my favorite special yet, and surely one of the most delicious vegan sandwiches in all of LA.

every time i eat a new special at tony’s darts away, i feel compelled to tell you immediately…because they never stick around for very long! today tony’s is serving up vegan meatball sandwiches filled with marinara sauce and topped with daiya cheese.
i ordered one without the cheese, and it was damn delicious. go eat one of these for dinner, who knows how long it will be on the menu.

while mohawk bend is definitely my new favorite place to eat and drink in LA, we can’t forget about my old favorite place to eat and drink in LA: tony’s darts away. the casual burbank bar has a giant tap list of california beers and the best vegan pub grub i’ve ever tasted.
i hit up tony’s last night with a couple of hungry omnivores, and we all chowed down on a massive amount of vegan snacks. in addition to an impressive menu of sausages, salads and fried foods, tony’s is known for its rotating specials. crazy stuff like vegan mozzarella sticks, wheatloaf sliders, and sunflower po boys never stick around for very long. yesterday tony’s had fried pickle chips on the menu and we just had to split an order.

April 9th, 2011LA restaurants, tony's darts away, vegan events
When springtime hits LA, I find I want to be outside as much as possible. It’s perfect timing, then, that the vegan-friendly, inaugural colLAboration mobile craft beer garden event would be held today, one of the year’s first truly spring-like days. Warm sun, cool breezes off the Pacific and even cooler beers on tap combined to make the the event truly spectacular for all those who attended.
colLAboration is, er, a collaboration of four of LA’s top beer bar owners: Ryan Sweeney of Verdugo Bar and Surly Goat (which happens to be our local hangout), Brian Lenzo of Blue Palms Brewhouse, Clay Harding of 38° Ale House and Tony Yanow of Tony’s Darts Away and soon-to-be-open Mohawk Bend. Collectively, they bring decades of experience not only of beer, but how to create an atmosphere in which to enjoy it.
If you’ve ever been to any of the above establishments, you’ll know that these guys care about their beer and their bars, sparing no effort to make sure you have the best time possible. They’re also hands-on. I still think that watching Brian Lenzo tap a cask with such grace and expertise is something that should be required watching for all beer lovers!
So, appreciating all of their bars as much as we do, we were beside ourselves with anticipation to see what they could achieve together. And we were not disappointed…

tony’s darts away is one of my favorite places to grab a weekday lunch. not only do they have a massive selection of craft beer on tap, but they’ve got great vegan sausages and a monday through friday lunch deal that comes with chips and salad. what more do i require?
since we last blogged about tony’s, they’ve been tweaking their menu and have added even more vegan toppings including jalapenos, fresh salsa, and avocado lime puree (pictured above)…

if there is anything on this blog deserving of an enthusiastic “hell yes!”, it would be these brand new vegan sliders from tony’s darts away in burbank.
i met my parents at tony’s for lunch yesterday and was all set to chow down on a vegan beer brat, when i noticed a new menu item on special: “WHEATLOAF” SLIDERS! oh yes. i often find myself sitting in various bars around town next to customers who are drinking beer while wolfing down plates of miniature burgers, and i always think to myself, “damn, i wish someone would make a vegan version of those.” tony’s darts away has officially answered my prayers, and the result is delicious…
