i can’t believe it, WE FINALLY TOOK A SPORK FOODS CLASS! and it was every bit as awesome as we hoped! read on.
spork foods has been on our radar for ages. the popular cruelty-free cooking class, run by adorable local sisters jenny and heather goldberg, has been written up by everyone from vegnews, to the los angeles times, to LAist.com, and various vegan blogs alike. i’ve tried their marvelous food in the past, first at the opening of their weho instructional space, and next at an LA vegan drinks shindig. i’ve also had the pleasure of virtually taking their classes and making their dishes in the comfort of my own home via the newly-launched sporkonline.com, a website that gives you access to high quality instructional videos as well as recipe breakdowns.
even though i’m usually pretty intimidated by the thought of cooking, the sporkonline classes were so fun, i knew i had to take one in real life. the sporkies do a different themed class every weekend with several time slots available. they are $65 each, and include about 2 hours of instruction plus a huge home cooked meal at the end! they’ve covered everything from italian food to curry, to holiday feasts and healthy meals. plus, every month they do an entirely gluten-free class for people with gluten sensitivities. we tracked the cooking class calendar until we found one that sounded perfect for us: “throwback to the 50’s – TV dinner edition” with recipes such as succulent succotash, personal seitan pot pies with a biscuit topping, crispy sage and caramelized onion mashed potatoes, and rich chocolate peanut butter brownies. sounds too good to pass up, right?! well it was…Tags: cooking class, spork foods
this holiday season, i can’t think of a better gift to give anybody than a membership to spork online. the website was launched last month by the sisters at spork foods and features an array of vegan resources including HD video cooking classes, downloadable recipes, a section to get your questions answered, and more.
let me back this up a bit. the spork sisters, jenny and heather, and their popular los angeles cooking classes have been on my radar for quite a while; both vegans and omnivores alike have raved about them, saying they are all kinds of fun and super informative. i even got a chance to try the spork sisters’ fantastic food at the launch party for their new space, and was instantly smitten.
i’ve always wanted to take one of their classes, but the thing is, i’m super shy. i’m also not very good at cooking, so hanging out in a room with lots of other humans who are better in the kitchen than i am seemed liked it could be intimidating. imagine how excited i was when i heard that jenny and heather were launching spork online. a place where i can browse videos of different classes, watch how to make individual recipes, and ask the sisters questions if i run into trouble…all in the privacy of my own home?! YES, PLEASE!
here’s what a membership will getcha:Tags: spork foods
i don’t know what you guys are doing this weekend, but from the looks of this photo, you should cancel your plans and take the spork foods brunch o’clock class.
when i saw this photo on the spork foods facebook, it was love at first sight. the spork foods sisters have been holding cooking classes in LA for years, and they have the endorsement of some of our favorite vegan blogs, as well as LAist. i’ve had their food before, and checked out their new weho cooking space, and both are nothing short of incredible.
the menu for the class this sunday is “Harvest Quiche with an Herb Crust, Tempeh Bacon Stuffed Tater Tots, Grilled Asparagus with a Hollandaise Sauce, and Lemon Ginger Scones with a Whipped Maple Cinnamon Butter” aka “I DIE”! it all sounds so freaking good.Tags: spork foods, weho
hey everyone! this is a HUGE day, because the famed goldberg sisters of spork foods have officially relocated to their new space. the popular cooking class and catering duo have called silverlake their home up until recently…now, however they are operating out of a very roomy commercial space in weho, and of course we were there to check out their brand new new digs.
the official “opening party” was tonight, and it went a little something like this:
nonstop snacks and alcohol! you name it, they probably had it. appetizers, drinks, music, it was the right vibe from the get-go.
the sporks party also had a good crowd. i showed up shortly after the starting time, and left a couple hours later…the whole while i kept running into lovely people who were excited about this new vegan addition to LA. by the time i left, a bouncer was getting serious about not letting newbies in! the place was PACKED…Tags: cooking, party, spork foods, weho
