i don’t wanna have lots of depressing stuff on the homepage, so more info after the jump…

oh, green leaves, you never cease to boggle our minds! for those of you readers not familiar with the history of the dishonest establishment, i’ll make a long story short. green leaves is a “vegan” thai restaurant in los feliz. for ages, they blatantly lied to people about using vegan cheese (suspicions date back to 2008, see the review by happycow user brittany). when we proved that they were deceiving customers by passing off real dairy as vegan, they threatened to sue us. since then, they’ve been under scrutiny by the los angeles health department for displaying an ostensibly bogus “truth-in-menu” certification.
cut to a few months ago. green leaves opened a new vegetarian restaurant on melrose and vine called green loves. basically a new outlet with the same menu and decor as the original restaurant. i guess that didn’t really work out for them—they reinvented themselves a pescatarian restaurant called sea minor…a pescatarian restaurant that serves real chicken, and specializes in vegan and vegetarian food. huh? i mean, have you ever seen such a confusing restaurant description?

it’s sad that we live in a society that actually cares what such vacuous actors have to say. in the following clip, the once vocal animal rights activist ginnifer goodwin does her best to shit all over veganism on national television.
i get it: celebs are fickle. they go vegan and then give up, they pretend to be vegan and then get drunk and eat cheese, whatever. what ginnifer goodwin did was far worse. not only did neglect her cruelty-free lifestyle, but she sat by and chuckled as the host made fun of veganism in general.
here ya go. it gets going at around 35 seconds in, and remains vile right until the end.
in case you don’t want to watch the whole clip, here are the highlights:

i’m writing this post so that it’s documented here on the blog forever. today pink taco in los angeles abused an animal to “celebrate” cinco de mayo, and since then they’ve deleted both their twitter and facebook accounts due to (much deserved) outrage. they chained up a poor defenseless donkey outside their tacky-ass restaurant, spray painted the animal pink, and branded it with their logo. sick, sick, sick shit.

i know it’s no surprise that celebrities can be super lame and fickle when it comes to animal rights, but this is just ridiculous.

the moment we’ve been waiting for has arrived. after an unapologetic response to last week’s uproar, vegnews has finally changed their ways and offered an official apology…

UPDATE 4/18/11: VegNews has finally apologized and changed their policy!
UPDATE 4/15/11: Someone left an unsubstantiated comment claiming the burger image we used earlier was vegetarian. I’ve replaced the photo with another real beef burger, as seen on VegNews.com.
Do you like looking at pictures of meat? How about a juicy beef burger, covered in egg mayonnaise with cow fat dripping off? Perhaps some soft, meaty chunks of chicken breast in chicken stock and cream? What about a pork sausage, oozing in pig fat, fresh from the slaughterhouse? OK, let’s tone it down a little. Perhaps you like to look at egg mayonnaise potato salad, made with eggs from those poor battery hens that are dead basically from the moment they are born. How about creamy mac and cheese made with real cow’s milk, pulled painfully from their sore and tender udders, infused with antibiotics, pain and anguish?
If so, you can find all this in the nation’s premier print and online vegan magazine, VegNews. Surprised? Shocked? Read on…
We’ve always been fans of VegNews, since back in the mid-2000s when we’d wait with bated breath for the US Mail to deliver our copy. We’d eagerly flip through, reading all about the latest veg stuff, salivating over the amazing pictures, trying out a vegan recipe, and maybe even discovering a restaurant in our home town through one of their reviews.
it’s sad, then, that the pictures we’ve been drooling over for years are actually of MEAT! Veg News has written tens (possibly hundreds) of articles extolling the virtues of a vegan lifestyle, while purchasing rock-bottom priced stock photos of MEAT, EGGS, DAIRY and other completely non-vegan things. You doubt this? See below:
We started searching for more examples of Veg News using meat photos next to “drool-worthy vegan recipes,” and the results were disturbing…
