now here’s a vegan magazine i can get behind! T.O.F.U. is a small diy operation, and all of their issues are available as pay-what-you-can digital downloads. they’ve released a teaser of their upcoming 5th issue which you can download here, and it’s chock full of tempting recipes, activism and diy tips, reviews, and personal spotlights. oh, and all the pictures are gorgeous and totally vegan!
here’s a brief bit of history on the magazine from ryan, the dude who started it…
and who said no good would come of all this? in the wake of vegan photogate, a new website called veganstockphoto.com has risen from the ashes. the official launch is tomorrow, and it’s gonna host pretty much exactly what you’d expect: vegan stock photos.Tags: vegnews, waffles
hey everyone! natural products expo west, the world’s largest natural products tradeshow, is going down this weekend in anaheim and we were there all day yesterday.
we got a pretty good feel for the new vegan products that are about to hit the market, so sit back and enjoy this post full of our favorite finds. we’ll start off with stuff from brands that we already know and love—established quarrygirl favoriteses that should be familiar to you guys.
first up: chicago soydairy!
these folks didn’t have a booth at the expo in 2010…but daaaaaaaamn, they made up for it this year with all kinds of craziness! where do i start? their booth was like a vegan party. they had an endless supply of deep-fried vegan mozzarella sticks using teese (pictured above), which were INCREDIBLE.Tags: expo west, products
by now, you are all probably familiar with chloe coscarelli. the young chef has taken the vegan world by storm and gained national attention when she earned top honors on the food network’s cupcake wars.
over the holidays, we were lucky enough to have a family-style home cooked meal at chloe’s house, where she made us one of the most insane desserts i’ve ever eaten. the monstrous mocha almond fudge cake will be featured in chloe’s cookbook (which is due out next year), and you can see her make it here with fran drescher:
i speak from personal experience when i say this cake is THE BOMB. check out all the other delicious things chloe cooked for us after the jump…Tags: chef chloe, dessert

healthy taste of LA “where the finest in plant based cuisine meets the best of nutritional science” is an event going down in redondo beach on november 7th, and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader. the event sounds pretty great…there’s gonna be health presentations by experts, as well as cooking demonstrations and VEGAN FOOD from some of our favorite chefs including david anderson of madeleine bistro, rachel carr of cru, eric lechasseur of seed kitchen, tanya petrovna of native foods, and rawsheed of sunpower natural cafe! i can’t even imagine being in the same room with all that tastiness. my head would explode.

as you probably know, madeleine bistro is the best vegan restaurant in town. recently, they’ve changed their hours and have decided to offer a different tasting menu every weekend, as well as a new delivery menu every monday. their website doesn’t reflect this change yet…so as a service to you, the readers, we are going to post the menus here each week for your enjoyment.
check out what madeleine has in store this weekend—it looks freaking fantastic. from a vegan “egg in the hole” with portabella bacon, to summer gnocchi, and wild mushroom wontons.Tags: tasting menu, the valley
tonight’s episode just ended, and local vegan baker chloe coscarelli took the victory home BIG TIME. not only did the young chef compete against professional cupcake shop owners who have been in the business FOR YEARS, but she won EVERY round with her 100% VEGAN cupcakes!
here’s a re-cap!…Tags: chef chloe, cupcakes, tv
chloe coscarelli first showed up on our radar earlier this year when she created the winning sandwich in coral tree cafe’s panini contest. since then she has distributed her baked goods throughout los angeles, started her own recipe blog and website, and even made cooking videos with vegnews.
tomorrow, chloe will be reppin’ the vegans when she goes head to head with other dessert pros on the food network’s cupcake wars. be sure to tune in and cheer her on, because not only is chloe and awesome local chef, but her vegan desserts ROCK. she made me a cake once and it was seriously one of the tastiest treats i’ve ever had.
tuesday, june 22nd on the food network at 9pm. CUPCAKE WARS! DO IT.
lastly, i will leave you with this adorable video chloe made with vegnews. i can’t watch it without getting ridiculously hungry. good luck, chloe!

hey everyone! this is a HUGE day, because the famed goldberg sisters of spork foods have officially relocated to their new space. the popular cooking class and catering duo have called silverlake their home up until recently…now, however they are operating out of a very roomy commercial space in weho, and of course we were there to check out their brand new new digs.
the official “opening party” was tonight, and it went a little something like this:
nonstop snacks and alcohol! you name it, they probably had it. appetizers, drinks, music, it was the right vibe from the get-go.
the sporks party also had a good crowd. i showed up shortly after the starting time, and left a couple hours later…the whole while i kept running into lovely people who were excited about this new vegan addition to LA. by the time i left, a bouncer was getting serious about not letting newbies in! the place was PACKED…Tags: cooking, party, spork foods, weho
as of friday evening, both the weho and chatsworth locations were clueless about the promotion. however, santa clarita is totally legit. let’s hope they get this ironed out soon. we want slices!
