October 25th, 2011vegan events
this weekend is gonna rule. not only is there a vegan halloween party on saturday, but there’s a pop-up all you can eat vegan brunch on sunday to celebrate dia de los muertos and benefit one of our favorite charities, ARME!
advance tickets are only ten bucks (they go up to $15 the day of), and i highly encourage you to RSVP sooner rather than later. not only because the event will probably sell out, but because the organizers want to be sure to cook enough food for everyone to be absolutely stuffed. the menu is looking insane: think herb roasted potatoes, smoked jackfruit burritos, seitan sausage, aztec tofu scramble, muffins, sweet rice, drinks, and cocktails for an additional charge! if there’s one thing LA is missing, it’s an all you can eat vegan sunday brunch. let’s take advantage of this one, even if it’s just for one weekend!
more details after the jump…

August 30th, 2011LA restaurants, native foods
2 native foods blog posts in one day?! you bet. not only is their regular menu stellar, but the restaurant never misses a chance to offer new and inventive specials. the newest one will be available this labor day weekend, friday through monday. let me introduce you to the “chimichurri burger”.
good god, the thinly sliced seitan is amazing. if this is even half as good as their epic oklahoma bacon burger, you’re in for a treat.

June 29th, 2011doomie's, LA restaurants
yes, yes, YES!! doomie’s may have been temporarily thwarted and shut down due to an electrical fire…but that’s not gonna stop them from throwing an epic all you can eat buffet this holiday weekend to use up their food. WE CANNOT LET THAT FOOD GO BAD, RIGHT? we all need to hit up this buffet.
plus, a mere ten bucks for a bottomless serving of the insanity that is doomie’s cuisine is just way too good to pass up, no matter what the circumstances. here are the details:

March 15th, 2011bangers and smashed, LA restaurants
UPDATE: bangers and smashed has just confirmed that they will be selling VEGAN SAUSAGES as well as vegan mashed potatoes at the event! yes! the sausage plate comes with 2 sausages and 2 scoops of potatoes for ten bucks, or you can get 2 scoops of potatoes for $5! so stoked that this event is so vegan-friendly! cheers!
vegans like to celebrate st. patrick’s day by getting drunk, gorging on potatoes festive “irish” foods, and participating in a bunch of needless pinching just as much as other americans…right? right! that’s why surly goat in west hollywood is the place to be this thursday.
the folks at the goat are teaming up with our favorite gourmet potato mashing company, bangers and smashed to bring us a st. patrick’s day party shindig that will please vegans and omnivores alike.

February 18th, 2011LA restaurants, madeleine bistro, vegan events
it’s no secret that i’ve eaten vegan food from all over the world. from paris to london, manhattan to fort lauderdale, san francisco to los angeles—i’ve sampled the fine restaurants that numerous different cities have to offer. and after stuffing my face full of just about every type of vegan cuisine, one establishment continues to stand out as my absolute favorite: madeleine bistro.
earlier this week while most people were celebrating romance and valentine’s day (pffffft), i was celebrating nothing more than the fact that madeleine bistro was offering a seven course chef’s tasting menu. ever since experiencing the insanity of chef dave’s multi-course new year’s eve dinner just over a year ago, i have been dreaming of returning to madeleine bistro for another special holiday meal. i went there this valentine’s day with the absolute highest expectations, yet they were still somehow exceeded. i’m not exaggerating when i say that in my 26 years on the planet, this was the best meal i’ve had yet. just have a look…

i am not a huge fan of valentine’s day (in fact, i think it’s kinda ridiculous), but that doesn’t mean i’m gonna miss the opportunity to eat lots of special holiday grub!
here’s a list of places around LA that are doing vegan valentine’s day menu, or offering seasonal items. the big day is just 2 weeks away, and i will keep updating this list as more info becomes available…so check back often!

everyone knows that the tofurky feast is a vegan thanksgiving staple (we usually eat at least 2 of ’em over the holiday season). the delicious vegetarian turkey alternative has been around for 15 years, but this year there is even more to love about it because it comes with the decadent addition of amy’s vegan chocolate cake!
the folks at turtle island contacted me and asked if i wanted a coupon to try out this new tofurky/amy’s package, and of course i said HELL YES!
i’m happy to report that the tofurky roast was bigger and tastier than ever (they’ve upped the serving size this year!), and the amy’s cake was moist and delicious beyond belief. let’s start with the tofurky roast…
