native foods: vegans and meat-eaters love it!
20August 30th, 2011LA restaurants, native foodsthe more i eat at native foods, the more i love it. ever since they opened up their new spacious location in culver city, i can’t stay away. they even have a rewards card program, and just last week i got an email saying i’d earned ten bucks worth of free food!
i recently took my omnivorous sister and niece to native foods and they were impressed. seriously, they were shocked that it was vegan. have a look at what we ordered:
topped with meaty vegan chili and homemade “cheese,” these fries are not to be messed with.
we couldn’t decide between the chili fries and the nachos, so we got both. best decision ever.
my sister loves regular reubens, and this one lived up to her standards.
my niece was super stoked about her smiley kids meal—isn’t it the cutest? and the perfect price at under 5 bucks!
native foods rules. go there, and bring non-vegans. they always love it.

I’ve been a loyal Native Foodsie for almost 10 years …but I gotta say, I’m not feelin’ the Reuben. I’ve tried it a couple times, and it’s just no FYH or Locali. If you’re gonna sammich at Native, I say go w/ the Meatball Sub, Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger, or the Portabella Sausage Sandwich. 🙂
You know what’s really great? Sometimes they have “African Peanut Soup” …sounds strange, but wowowowow it is amazing.

Native’s in Culver City is definitely my go to restaurant for my meat eating friends & family. I can honestly say that Native’s have wowed every single one of them. Everyone should be mandated to order the nachos..yes that Good!

Not a fan of Rubens, in general, so I haven’t had it. But I agree whole heartedly with what Greg C. said about the sandwiches…and I would rank them in the order in which he mentioned them.

I’m a huge fan of that reuben and most other things on the menu. Native Foods might be the first vegan restaurant to transform into a national chain. They just opened three in Chicago the last week.

loving hut beat them to it! unfortunate because native foods is way better.

My girlfriend and I just ate at the Lakeview (Chicago) opening dinner and everything was FANTASTIC. The Sweet Potato Taquitos were unbelievable. Can’t wait to try everything on the menu!
-
everyone needs to rock the rewards card! I’ve been getting free stuff for two years!

I’m not a fan of their reuben, either. It’s decent, but I don’t consider it to be a reuben. And the thing is, it’s only missing one thing: salt. You can’t have a reuben with unsalted “meat”.

i need to get my self out to CA just to try this place… everything looks freeking amazing

Ah, I love Native Foods! I’ve only been to the one in Westwood, but my mom told me that the Culver City location is even better. I love their Buddha Bowl. So good! And they don’t skimp on the good veggies and give you mostly carrots, like some places do. That’s one of my restaurant pet peeves. I’m going to have to try the chili cheese fries and the corn quesadilla soon! Oh, and the nachos too. It all looks amazing.

I tried the Native Foods Reuben. It was okay.
FYI, Native Foods has “Happy Hour” on Fridays between 3pm and 6pm.
Receive Half Off all Appetizers, Wine & Beer from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday.
But the Westwood location doesn’t have beer or wine, so just the appetizers are 1/2 off during “Happy Hour”.
So, for example, those chili cheese fries and native nachos that are pictured above, would be 1/2 off during “Happy Hour”.

My favorite all time restaurant! I comment on all blog posts about Native Foods because it gives me another opportunity to whine because the Palm Desert location is closed until they find a new location. Look hard, NF, look hard!

One of the best places ever.
I am kinda ashamed to admit I just racked up my 3,000th point at NF. That’s one point per dollar. And my girlfriend almost never eats with me, so that tally is all mine.
I was also eating there *before* they started keeping track.
Geez!

Vegan “taco meat” is made from seitan.
Seitan is derived from the protein portion of wheat.
