this post is dedicated to natalie portman, who lives in los angeles and recently gave up on veganism because she couldn’t find any vegan cookies.
i have put away truckloads of vegan cookies in my time (believe me!), but now that i’ve discovered ye olde tyme bake shoppe, i can say that i’ve found my favorite.
the small los angeles based operation sells their treats both online and at some restaurants in the san fernando valley. whether you wanna place a mail order or drive to the 818, whatever you need to do to get your hands on these cookies, it’ll be worth it…Tags: cookies, the valley

sweet e’s is becoming THE go to place in LA for haute and sassy baked goods. the specialty bakeshop caters to loads of celebrity clients, has an impressive resume of television appearances, and recently grew from a delivery-only business, to a dessert truck, and now a full on brick and mortar bakery. oh and did i mention, they are super vegan-friendly?! yes! i’m so happy to report that every step of the way, sweet e’s has kept vegan customers in mind. and their recent foray into cake pops is no exception.
WTF is a cake pop?! i didn’t even know until recently. it’s basically a decadent cake bite covered in creamy frosting, served up on a stick so it’s easy to eat. genius. i recently got a chance to sample several different flavors from sweet e’s, and i’m happy to report that they were all outstanding.Tags: beverly hills, cake pops, dessert

these folks didn’t have a booth at the expo in 2010…but daaaaaaaamn, they made up for it this year with all kinds of craziness! where do i start? their booth was like a vegan party. they had an endless supply of deep-fried vegan mozzarella sticks using teese (pictured above), which were INCREDIBLE.Tags: expo west, products

by now, you are all probably familiar with chloe coscarelli. the young chef has taken the vegan world by storm and gained national attention when she earned top honors on the food network’s cupcake wars.
over the holidays, we were lucky enough to have a family-style home cooked meal at chloe’s house, where she made us one of the most insane desserts i’ve ever eaten. the monstrous mocha almond fudge cake will be featured in chloe’s cookbook (which is due out next year), and you can see her make it here with fran drescher:

there’s no shortage of vegan cookies here in los angeles, but i can say without a doubt that the oversized chocolate chip treats from mardy’s munchies are some of the best.
the small neighborhood bakery based out of northeast LA was started about two years ago by montecito heights resident steve rossen, and his partner jana. while they only have one vegan item on the menu at the moment, it’s a damn good one and worth trying out…Tags: baked goods, cookies, dessert, highland park

when brody’s bakery in kansas city contacted me and asked if i’d like to receive a shipment of their baked yummies, i was like, “HELL YES.” the all vegan and gluten-free company offers an insane selection of treats: donuts, brownies, cookies, bars, truffles…it’s madness! the online menu is so huge, i couldn’t even begin to decide what to order. i told brody’s i trusted their judgment and to hook me up with something good. …and boy, did they ever!
i couldn’t even believe it when the massive box arrived, just overflowing with good stuffs. loads of rich, decadent baked goods that all happen to be vegan and gluten-free. WTF? how do they do it?Tags: baked goods, brownies, dessert, donuts, kansas
