we all know that vegans LOVE cupcakes. i’m not sure why, but it’s definitely a thing. we also know that los angeles LOVES food trucks, so it’s about time these two delicious worlds collided. less than a week ago, sweet e’s bakeshop (follow them on twitter for their schedule!) hit the streets in their brand new cupcake truck, and they have been carrying vegan red velvet cupcakes every single day.
i was fortunate enough to try sweet e’s goods back in may, and i can assure you, these cupcakes are delish! i’m talking moist fluffy cake, melt-in-your-mouth creamy frosting, and perfect presentation! plus, they are bite-sized and super adorable. <3
the photo above is from a special box of QG-decorated cupcakes sweet e’s sent me as a gift. so while i can’t say the cupcakes on the truck will have that rad quarrygirl design, i CAN say that they will taste amazing!
i mean, where else can you get roaming vegan cupcakes on demand in this city?! right?? follow sweet e’s on twitter, and get out to the truck to try some vegan cupcakes ASAP!

July 3rd, 2010london, more restaurants (not LA)
hey everyone! time for our latest vegan field report from rachel who has been staying in london. here she reviews the delicious-sounding dessert maker, ms. cupcake! check it out:
I have tried a lot of vegan cupcakes; everything from very dry, funny tasting ones to deliciously moist ones, but none can ever come close to those baked by Ms. Cupcake. Based in London, Ms. Cupcake provides amazingly rich and decadent cupcakes in a huge variety of flavors. As a former primary school teacher, Ms. Cupcake can now officially say, “I bake cupcakes for living” because she is a hit at both the Greenwich and Brick Lane Markets where she sells at.
Decked out in adorable 1950’s attire, who wouldn’t want to buy sweets from her? I’ve tried far too many “you won’t feel guilty about these because they’re healthy” kind of cakes and those all fell under the dry and funny tasting category. But Ms. Cupcake provides vegans with a dessert so decadent that I don’t think I will ever eat another vegan cupcake unless it’s hers (so she better start shipping to the States…).

listen up vegans! you’d better set your DVRs to record cupcake wars this tuesday june 22nd at 9pm on the food network, because chef chloe is going to be competing with her delicious vegan treats!
chloe coscarelli first showed up on our radar earlier this year when she created the winning sandwich in coral tree cafe’s panini contest. since then she has distributed her baked goods throughout los angeles, started her own recipe blog and website, and even made cooking videos with vegnews.
tomorrow, chloe will be reppin’ the vegans when she goes head to head with other dessert pros on the food network’s cupcake wars. be sure to tune in and cheer her on, because not only is chloe and awesome local chef, but her vegan desserts ROCK. she made me a cake once and it was seriously one of the tastiest treats i’ve ever had.
tuesday, june 22nd on the food network at 9pm. CUPCAKE WARS! DO IT.
follow chloe on twitter, and check out her website for more info. she always tweets when her baked goods are available for sale.
lastly, i will leave you with this adorable video chloe made with vegnews. i can’t watch it without getting ridiculously hungry. good luck, chloe!

do you like adorable little desserts? then you are gonna love sweet e’s bakeshop.
the LA-based company calls itself a “mini bakeshop,” because they specialize in cute bite-sized treats…and their sweets are custom-made, so they can put any decoration on any dessert. sweet e’s has been wowing customers for quite awhile (even making cupcakes for cast members of the hills), but only recently did they launch a brand new vegan dessert line!
when sweet e’s offered to send me samples of their new vegan cupcakes, of course i was beyond excited. even though i had pretty high expectations, i can safely say the treats were even more adorable and tasty than i imagined…

I HATE HOLIDAYS!!!! but boy do i LOVE holiday food…
here in america, st. patrick’s day is pretty much a wasted occasion. you don’t get time off work, the bars are too crowded to enjoy, and pervs have the excuse to go around pinching people all day. even thought i enjoy a bit of fun and am quite a heavy drinker, i just can’t get into all the green beer, glittery shamrocks, and fake irish patriotism. what i CAN get into though, is st. patty’s day themed cupcakes by vegan bake sale.

January 3rd, 2010babycakes, LA restaurants
happy sunday, everyone! we just got back from the grand opening of LA’s very first all vegan bakery, babycakes. while they have existed in new york city for quite sometime, the downtown los angeles location opened at 10am this morning, and there was a healthy crowd of customers to greet them.
with a focus on organic ingredients and lots of gluten-free menu items, babycakes’ treats are probably healthier than most, and i think they are just as delicious. i left with a whopping haul that included a chocolate-covered donut, some gluten-free brownie bites, a cookie, a cupcake, and a brilliant invention called a “cupcake top” (just the frosting and a thin sliver of cake).
here’s a quick review of each item. the donut was decent, the best part of it being the frosting; definitely a less-decadent vegan dessert item. the cupcake top was perfect for me, because i’m the kind of person who likes to just eat the frosting off stuff anyway.
the cookie was a little disappointing, kind of dry and not very flavorful. the brownie cupcake was excellent, there were even little chocolate chips littered throughout the cake.
and lastly, the tiny 99¢ brownie bite was INCREDIBLE. it was small, full of chocolate chips, and had creamy frosting in the middle. shocking, but it was the best thing i ordered!
overall i really enjoyed babycakes’ baked goods and i can’t wait to go back. vegans, you should head over there and give this place a try. by the time i left, there were many many satisfied customers.
here are some more photos of the shop for your enjoyment:
