lunch plans, cheap beer, cupcakes, and vegan cinco de mayo!
11May 5th, 2010vegan eventshey everyone! not sure if you have lunch plans today, but mandoline grill is gonna be serving up food in the valley along with dainty cakes, who will have vegan cupcakes!
you can find them on the corner of lankershim and magnolia from noon-2:30ish and you won’t wanna miss it…
mandoline grill’s tofu banh mi is my pick for the best sandwich in town, and if you haven’t had it yet, you suck at life.
also, dainty cakes will be selling some special vegan cupcakes just for valley folks today. they usually don’t offer a vegan option, but when they do it’s delicious. rumor is, the vegan flavor today is gonna be red velvet, so be sure to give it a try.
if you are looking for something more festive to do on cinco de mayo, head to any of the native foods locations where they’ll be offering up a mexican-inspired special called weird al’s tamale pie and giving a 50% discount on wine, beer, and nachos! YES! (i’m not sure if the westwood location serves alcohol, but the half-off nachos are enough to get me there).
and if you really feel like partAAAying tonight, head on over to the verdugo bar’s cinco de mayo celebration where mandoline grill will be serving up even more vegan sandwiches, spring rolls, and noodle bowls. 9pm-2am!
that’s all, have a great cinco de mayo and don’t drink to much. be sure to follow all these folks on twitter.

Thanks for the heads up! I just stuffed myself with the bahn mi and the spring rolls. They were as delicious as you promised they’d be!!! As soon as I can breathe again, I’m going to eat the vegan red velvet cupcake I grabbed from daintycakes as well!

Had I been anywhere near there today, I totally would’ve bought a vegan cupcake. That Native Foods special looks really good too.

The phoenix suns also changed their uniform to Los Suns in support of the celebration of Cinco De Mayo –

aw man, i just found out that i suck at life. now i need to go follow that truck around and grab that sandwich.
Westwood Native Foods does not serve alcohol because they only have one bathroom, apparently. I guess in LA you must have separate bathrooms for men and women to serve alcohol. That’s what they told me, anyway. Now that they have that extra space next door i would knock a wall down, put in a second bathroom and start serving up some beer.
