vegan sandwich wins coral tree cafe ‘panini-off’!
23January 21st, 2010coral tree cafe, LA restaurantsUPDATE 5/21/10: sadly, coral tree cafe no longer offers the winning vegan panini. 🙁 chef chloe is still taking los angeles by storm though, so check out her website for updates!
hey everyone, i’ve got some great news! recently coral tree cafe in brentwood held a contest amongst locals to see who could make the best panini…and while lots of meat-filled sandwiches were entered, it was a vegan panini that won first prize. not just that…but 22 year old chloe coscarelli, the winning chef, actually heard about the contest from my tweet! how awesome, right?!
chloe wrote in to quarrygirl.com to tell us about her win, and also sent us some pix of her sandwich and her trophy. she told us via email,
I just wanted to let you know that my vegan Mango Masala Panini won first place yesterday at Coral Tree Cafe!! I went up against Turkey Bacon, Prosciutto, Ham, and Pork Loins, but to my surprise the judges all voted vegan! Thanks again for letting me know about the contest! Coral Tree is going to add my panini to their menu, so be sure to check out their first vegan panini option…
I just graduated the Natural Gourmet Institute culinary school, when I saw your tweet. I was with my brother who’s also vegan (we are both obsessed with your reviews) and he follows your twitter and that is how we found out about the contest.
the panini is packed with chickpeas cauliflower and mango chutney, and is “is naturally nutritious and extremely delicious.” i seriously can’t wait to get over to coral tree cafe and try one!
a huge congrats to chloe for taking this competition by storm and coming out in first place! yay vegans!

Congratulations Chloe. I remember fondly the night you were wearing that brown robe and attacking Reggie Bannister. You didn’t hear your dad yell “cut,” so you just kept pummeling him. Then he blew your head off with a .45. Thanks for being vegan.

Woohoo! Congratulations, Chloe! I can’t wait to try this sandwich for myself.

I am so happy for Chloe! To be so young and to win against so many meat dishes, it truly is inspiring. I can’t wait to see what a wonderful chef she becomes.

I tried the mango masala panini a few weeks ago and didn’t even know about the contest or this post. I thought it was pretty good and I was really happy to see it actually. I work in the Union Bank building and I have been so sick of Whole Foods being my only real walkable vegan option.

🙁 I should have tried this panini when I had the chance! I called in just now to ask if they are still serving it and they aren’t anymore 🙁 I missed my chance to try That’s Amore too 🙁 At least I tried Cafe Flourish before it closed 🙁 Makes me sad but I guess it’s our fault for not supporting vegan options/businesses with our dollars!
