April 6th, 2011hugo's restaurant, LA restaurants
eeeep! i’m so excited. one of our favorite vegan-friendly specials, the soul food plate, will return to hugo’s this month.
vegan soul food plate: BBQ organic tofu steak served with vegan and gluten-free corn bread topped with cauliflower flowerets covered in a mushroom leek gravy. Served with sides of braised leafy greens with garlic and onions and spiced maple roasted yams. $12.50
you can find it at the valley location starting today, and the weho location starting tomorrow (thursday). but that’s not all…

April 5th, 2011vegan events
UPDATE: this event has sold out! yay beer!
i can’t believe it has been almost a year since the opening of tony’s darts away in burbank. in just a short amount of time the pub has become an integral part of the LA craft beer scene, and it remains the best place ever to drink and eat vegan food at the same time.
recently tony’s has teamed up with the other leading beer bars in los angeles to form colLAboration, an organization that plans to throw pop up beer garden parties all over town. their inaugural event will take place this weekend to celebrate tony’s first birthday, and it’s gonna be vegan-friendly!

April 4th, 2011juicy ladies, LA restaurants
over the weekend we visited one of the few vegan restaurants in los angeles we hadn’t been to yet, juicy ladies. it’s actually more of a juice bar or take out place than a proper restaurant, with a counter to order at and seating inside for maybe 5 or 6 people. we arrived at around 11am and were lucky enough to snag one of the few tables.
juicy ladies may be small in size, but the menu is mighty with a great selection of breakfast items, salads, bowls and sandwiches. there’s also a full on juice and smoothie menu as well as a fridge full of grab and go meals for people in a hurry.
juicy special burger: black bean and brown rice patty, lettuce, pickles, tomato, thousand island dressing, grilled onions and tapioca cheese on a whole wheat bun. served with mixed greens. $10.25
my husband ordered the juicy special burger and had no complaints…

April 3rd, 2011more restaurants (not LA), vancouver
time for another vegan field report! this one comes to us from Geanna who recently visited an all raw/vegan/organic take-out restaurant in canada called gorilla food. for you raw peeps out there, this place looks pretty promising. if it’s good enough for joey potter, it’s good enough for me.
You’ve probably heard of Gorilla Food because they had a recent visit by none other than Mrs. Tom Cruise (that’s Katie Holmes to we mere mortals). She made quite a stir by visiting this raw and vegan cafe located in Gas Town in downtown Vancouver, BC

April 3rd, 2011more restaurants (not LA), NYC
hey peeps! time for another nyc field report from jl goes vegan. i’m loving her reports because they’re all so honest…especially this one. enjoy:
Recently on Twitter my friend Noelle, planning a trip to NYC, asked for a restaurant recommendation that was friendly to the omnivore, the vegetarian and the vegan. I suggested Josie’s East, based on my previous dining experiences with my omnivore husband when I was a vegetarian (not vegan), as we both have enjoyed several delicious, “comfort food” dinners there.
Over the weekend Noelle coordinated a blogger meet-up at Josie’s East for brunch. Turns out, only the vegans showed up. We may have been better off dining somewhere else.
There are only a few items on the menu that are completely vegan. I ordered one of them, the Organic Three Grain Vegetable Cheeseburger.

March 31st, 2011LA restaurants, sweet e's, vegan bakers
sweet e’s is becoming THE go to place in LA for haute and sassy baked goods. the specialty bakeshop caters to loads of celebrity clients, has an impressive resume of television appearances, and recently grew from a delivery-only business, to a dessert truck, and now a full on brick and mortar bakery. oh and did i mention, they are super vegan-friendly?! yes! i’m so happy to report that every step of the way, sweet e’s has kept vegan customers in mind. and their recent foray into cake pops is no exception.
WTF is a cake pop?! i didn’t even know until recently. it’s basically a decadent cake bite covered in creamy frosting, served up on a stick so it’s easy to eat. genius. i recently got a chance to sample several different flavors from sweet e’s, and i’m happy to report that they were all outstanding.

you probably already know that i’m obsessed with hot sauce. no seriously, i suffer from capsicum addiction. i put it on everything. EVERYTHING! so i figured, why not start sharing my favorite sauces with you guys?
…starting with one that most people assume isn’t vegan: frank’s red hot buffalo wing sauce.
