meatballin’ at tony’s
8August 30th, 2011LA restaurants, tony's darts awayevery time i eat a new special at tony’s darts away, i feel compelled to tell you immediately…because they never stick around for very long! today tony’s is serving up vegan meatball sandwiches filled with marinara sauce and topped with daiya cheese.
i ordered one without the cheese, and it was damn delicious. go eat one of these for dinner, who knows how long it will be on the menu.
oh and while you’re in burbank on magnolia, head a couple blocks down to yummy cupcakes for dessert. they’ve got vegan berry pie cupcakes on special today. bam:

I know I must be the only vegan in the world but I HATE daiya cheese; it’s sick. It has such a bad aftertaste and I know plenty of people who’ve had digestive problems from consuming it. Lately though, daiya is everywhere! I am glad restaurants are attempting more vegan choices, but I wish daiya cheese wasn’t the consistent cheese-choice offering. A cashew-blend is so much more healthier or or other nut-based cheeses. The rest of the sandwich does look great though and kudos Tony’s, for continuing to offer vegan foods!

I also dislike daiya and prefer nut based cheeses. However many people are allergic + most nut companies that I know don’t cater to bulk buying. They should though.

It’s cool. I’m probably the only person in the world who greatly prefers Follow Your Heart cheese to any of the other ones I’ve tried. I don’t really like Daiya at all either.
Maybe I’m just used to FYH because I’ve been eating it for years, but I remember when it first came out and I got it on a pizza at FYH and I sent my pizza back because I thought they had put real cheese on it. I guess I have no idea what cheese tastes like anymore.

My eye is on those vegan berry pie cupcakes, those look tantalizing.

Ya know, for the most part I’m happy that I live south of the Hollywood Hills, but post like these almost make me miss Burbank. Almost.
(Yummy Cupcakes is one of the few bakery store fronts whose vegan cupcakes I really like and they don’t even specialize in vegan cupcakes.)
