this is just a quick post to let you all know about figueora produce, a small little grocery store in highland park that’s bringing you high-quality foods at discounted prices. in an area that lacks a whole foods, this place has got most our favorite products including gardein, daiya, teese, and so delicious. plus, they are always willing to take suggestions from vegans about what they should carry.

we popped by the store over the weekend, and i was so excited to see the shelves stocked with so many vegan items.

silk and so delicious right there with the normal milk…

stinkey monkey pudding and blissed out chocolates (two very good, yet hard to find vegan products)…

    several gardein frozen products…

along with teese, tofurky, and daiya…!

i was actually pretty excited to see teese on the shelf, because i’d just suggested to figueroa produce via twitter that carry it a couple weeks ago. they sure didn’t waste any time!

but it’s not just bloggers that figueroa produce listens to. my friend recently moved to eagle rock and was shopping at the grocery store when one of the owners, ruben perez, introduced himself and welcomed her to the neighborhood. he gave her his email address, and said if there were any vegan products she’d like to see, to let him know. she emailed him to suggest they carry field roast sausages, and with in a few days she got a response saying they had been ordered and would be in stock soon. WOW! talk about customer service!

if you are ever in the area, be sure to stop in and check figueroa produce out. it’s a real gem in the highland park neighborhood with a wonderful staff and great vegan products. oh, and be sure to follow them on twitter! they are always announcing deals and discounts. in fact, TODAY is twitter tuesday…meaning, if you go to the store and mention twitter, you get 10% off your check! so go do it!

  • I want the stinkey monkey pudding!!

  • Fuck yeah! When I lived in Highland Park a couple years ago, I got the chance to shop there when they first opened. It was my spot!

  • aforementioned friend here. along with field roast, on it’s way is a “vegan meat alternative called Viana”. hello?! been veg for 15 years and haven’t heard of this stuff. who’s on top of the game? looking forward to trying lots of new stuff from figueroa produce.

    That looks so great!!

  • I just got back with some really great finds I can’t get at Whole Foods. Extra bonus was meeting Craig from Earth Cafe Living Foods who showed up at the same time and gave me a bite of awesome delicious cheese cake.

  • Yes! We live 5 blocks from there and go in almost daily. As you say, Ruben and Luis have been incredibly receptive to our vegan suggestions. They even went raw vegan for a bit over the summer.

They’ve also made an effort to carry more and more organic produce.

Proud mama comment: My son is a bag boy there a few afternoons a week. 🙂

Figueroa Produce rocks the grocery world!

  • I was by there earlier today. Great store w/friendly & helpful staff.:).

  • This is the only place in town I can get Raweos!!! They are so addicting:)

  • This is where I do all my grocery shopping!!! I told them, “Thank you, I no longer have to make the long drive to Wholefoods”. Love supporting my community 🙂

  • BTW thanks for not adding something negative about the neighborhood. Some of your other posts about the Northeast side communities include that… :/

  • best grocery store everrrr. please everyone continue to support this place and spread the word about it. it needs support from the community. this place is a gem.

  • I work near Highland Park so stopped by this place during my lunch hour and totally stocked up on Gardein and vegan cheeses. Not only do they carry four flavors of Teese, but they also have Dr. Cow’s Tree Nut Cheeses! This is a major find if you like Dr. Cow’s because normally you have to get it online (or fly to San Francisco and get it from Rainbow Co-op). Other products that Figueroa Produce stocks include:

    * Daiya, which you can buy in shredded in the retail packaging OR as slices from the deli

    * Earth Cafe raw vegan cheesecakes (only $5.99 — about the same price as Whole Foods and they have lots of samples)

    * Gardein products: regular Crispy Tenders, Chipotle Lime Crispy Fingers, and Chickin Scallopini (and a few others I didn’t buy this time)

    * Raweos — raw oreo cookies!

    * Tofutti sour cream, and various other dips and spreads, including garlic sauce and raw hummus

    * Quinoa pastas

    * Vegan meats sliced to order in the deli section (I saw black pepper ham, regular ham, and “Kobe”) Unfortunately I couldn’t try them at the time because they were still a bit frozen for slicing. I’ll try them next time. They’ll also make you a sandwich at the deli.

    * Field Roast sausages and loafs

There’s lots more; this is just what I’m remembering. Bring your own bag and you get a five-cent credit per bag.

I also met Ruben, one of the owners, and he was very helpful and friendly, as was another guy who worked there whose name I didn’t get.

Please support this place! At the very least, pick up some Teese and Dr. Cow’s so they have a reason to keep stocking it! It’s way more affordable than buying it online and paying for shipping.

  • I stopped by there and had one of the vegan sandwiches…it was terrific!! The owner told me he is opening a new vegan & organic shop called ORGANIX in January.
