hi dudes! time for another quick bite from anderson. you may remember his drool-worthy escapades at the INSANELY-DELICIOUS-SOUNDING cheezy pizza in colton. that place is so close to LA, i don’t know why i haven’t been there yet! anyways, today he brings us a report from an all vegan restaurant in our neighbor state of arizona. sit back and enjoy this review of green in tempe. road trip, anyone?!

argentine po-boy: strips of seitan mock steak sauteed with caramelized peppers and onions, vegan mayo and a spicy chimichuri sauce. with sweet potato puffs! $8

it is totally a hipster hang out, but don’t let that discourage anyone from eating here. the service is quick and friendly, for the most part. and there is local art on the walls, some of which you can buy and all the proceeds go to charities like farm sanctuary.

one of the best things about green is that they make so many awesome fast/comfort foods that vegans can’t necessarily find easily. they’ve gotten some good press from peta who said they make the best faux chicken sandwich in the u.s., a bbq chicken sandwich, and were voted in as runner up for best vegan ice cream. in addition to the sandwiches and stir fry bowls that they offer, they have specials most weeks, such as the big wac (a faux big mac). my favorite dishes are the buffalo wings, chili fries, and no harm chicken parm sandwich. but this week i decided to try something else that was just as delicious.

the first thing i got was the argentine po-boy (pictured above). its a pepper steak seitan, with vegan mayo, peppers, onions and chimichuri. the sandwiches also come with a side, so i chose the sweet potato puffs which are awesome!

tsoynami: blizzard-stlye dessert. ask for daily flavors! this one was with vanilla, strawberry and captain crunch. $4.5

of course, i also had to have a dessert. they have awesome creamy soft serve vanilla ice cream, which you can turn into their vegan version of a dq blizzard, which they call a tsoynami. stoynamis come in many different combinations. i got my usual, the soy capitan, which mixes in strawberry and vegan captain crunch. yummy!

if you’re ever in the area, you definitely need to check this restaurant out.

  • i have been here! it. is. AWESOME.

  • I love this place! Took a road trip with my mom and we stopped here. She (a pescatarian) thought the chicken parm sandwich was the best sandwich she’d ever eaten. The tsoynami was really good too. We tried to stop here coming home, but they were closed on Sunday. Heartbreaking!

  • go to Pomegranate tomorrow for breakfast or lunch if you’re still in town … it’s awesome! http://www.pomegranatecafe.com

  • thanks for the tip Gwen. I’ve read about Pomegranate cafe, but never have checked it out, even though i’m in the valley every other weekend. maybe i will go tomorrow!

    This looks so good

  • I live right around the corner! I had the Betterfinger tsoynami yesterday and it was Ok. Soft serve too icey for me.

  • I LOVE green! The cookies n cream tsoynami is sooo good. Also worth noting are their wontons and the apricot miso noodle bowl. Hell the whole menu is delicious!

  • My boyfriend’s family lives in arizona so every time we come and visit we make sure to stop here at least once (if not twice!) Being vegan and from LA I know yummy vegan food and this is definitely it! My favorites are the spinach artichoke dip, the buffalo wings, and the BBQ chicken pizza. Sometimes we drive over just to pick up a round of Tsoynami’s… They are like nothing else I have ever had, the clunky monkey is the perfect remedy for those hot Arizona days 🙂
