Vegan Field Report: Garden Cafe on the Green, Woodstock NY
4June 7th, 2011more restaurants (not LA), woodstockhey everyone! time for another field report from JL Goes Vegan. this one comes to us all the way from new york state and covers a restaurant called garden cafe on the green, near the woodstock farm animal sanctuary. if you ever wanna hang out with some sweet animals and eat some tasty food on the east coast, do yourself a favor and bookmark this page!
My husband and I recently took a “vegan day trip” from metro NYC to Woodstock, NY to tour the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary (check out this brief vlog of the farm sanctuary tour).
After a couple of hours of walking the grounds and meeting the incredible animals saved from the factory farming, I have to admit we were hungry. But not for animals!
The Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary has a few restaurant suggestions on their website and I went with the one that was all vegan and offered wine and beer (natch), Garden Cafe on the Green.
So, yes, we started with adult beverages.
We decided to share a starter…
Curried Panko Crusted Fresh Green Pea Fritter, $9
…which was both light and substantial at the same time. The slight crunch and hearty curry were perfect — particularly as we realized it was our first solid food of the day! (We started the day out with smoothies.)
On to the entrees. His:
Grilled Portabella Mushroom Panini, $10
Hers:
Garden Bowl: Avocado and Sun Dried Tomato Risotto Cake, Tofu with Basil Lemon Sauce, Sauteed Greens, $12
Both entrees? Perfect.
If you find yourself in metro NYC, or further upstate, do yourself a favor. Visit the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary to remind yourself why you eat vegan and then enjoy a plant-based meal and drinks at Garden Cafe.

Yay! I love your blog, but being from upstate new york, I rarely get to eat at any of the restaurants high-lighted, but I’ve been to the garden cafe and I LOVE IT there! awesome 🙂 I took my lil niece and nephew who are very not-vegan, and only mentioned after they loved their meals that everything on the menu is vegan!
