saturday was a big day. it was not only the mr.’s birthday, but it was supposed to be the day of the rapture (what a jip that turned out to be!), and most importantly it was the day before the closing of our favorite restaurant…madeleine bistro. of course we made it a point to eat there. after all, it may have been our last meal on the planet (what a way to go!), plus madeleine offered the kind of fancy food befitting of a birthday celebration, and we wanted to dine there one last time. now it’s all gone, and it pains me to write this post!

naturally we went nuts with appetizers, sides, entrees, and a double serving of dessert. i couldn’t move after the meal, but man, the deliciousness was so worth the pain of over-eating. though the restaurant is now closed, i thought i’d torture you with photos of our incredible last supper. everything was beyond epic, so i’ll just let the pictures do the talking…

asparagus and new potato salad, tomato, mesclun, mustard-parsley vinaigrette

    onion rings

(BEST ONION RINGS EVER!!!!!!) the batter was all thick and tempura-style. i’m so in love.

classic wheat free mac n cheese

chicken fried seitan, mashed potatoes, gravy, seasonal vegetables

    and from behind…

lemon rosemary seitan, seasonal crepes, rice cake, zucchini saute

    seitan money shot…

    chocolate souffle, vanilla ice cream

vanilla bean creme brulee, whipped creme

ah, and after that we came home and took a ten hour nap. talk about fantastic food! the world is seriously a little shittier overall, now that madeleine bistro has closed down.

there have been rumors circulating that madeleine bistro plans to re-open soon, possibly in a new location, but at this point it’s all hearsay. for up to date info, friend the restaurant on facebook, or just follow this blog. we will always keep ya posted.

we miss you already, madeleine bistro!

That looks delicious, especially the desserts. I wonder if those rumors about them possibly re-opening in Eagle Rock are correct? Would be great if that happened.

  • Happy belated birthday to Mr. Meaner 🙂 We had our last meal there on Saturday night too. It was so hard to decide what to order! My husband and I decided to each pick 1 old fav and 1 new one to try, plus we split another new one. We split the potato and mushroom lasagna and he got the red beet tartare and the new eggplant dish and I ordered the mac and cheese with a side of the mushroom bacon (not the same without it) and the new portobella filet mignon poleta dish. It was AMAZING! So bittersweet 🙁 At least we still have Shojin until Madeleine hopefully reopens or opens another location? *sigh*

  • Madeleine’s creme brulee might just be the most amazing vegan dessert on the planet. It taste just like the egg-y original. They better re-open elsewhere so I can have it again!

  • The Chicken Fried Seitan has been my favorite meal for almost 7 years. This sucks.

  • I’m sad I’ll never have a chance to eat there, because that creme brulee looks AMAZING!

  • That’s almost exactly the same as what we ordered at our “last supper” there too, haha. Come back soon Dave and Molly!

  • I don’t know if I’d call it “hearsay” when on their facebook page they say they are closing, then they later update it with “closing for renovations” and don’t really give an explanation beyond that when people incessantly inquire. It’s just bizarre/kinda shady to me…

Needless to say – best food ever.

  • MORE BULLSHIT. waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

  • omg deathhhhhhh without madeleine, what am i gonna do now?????? :((((

  • Nooooo! Now where am I supposed to go for my lovie anniversary???

  • To say that something is a “gyp” is a slur that most people are unaware of. It comes from the stereotype that “Gypsies” are likely to scam or short you out of something.

  • i said it was a “jip”. definitely didn’t mean to offend anyone!

  • We ate there last night and we were informed that they are open on Sundays only.
We did not enjoy the food at all. I wrote a detailed review on Yelp. I wish the owner success in his new culinary endeavors.

    Sincerely,
