chipotle’s vegan garden blend finally arrives in los angeles!
52April 27th, 2010chipotle, LA restaurantsUPDATE 6/9/10: garden blend is available in even more locations! see the list here.
it’s here, it’s FINALLY HERE!!!!! chipotle’s vegan garden blend burrito made with gardein is available in 2 los angeles locations as of TODAY.
we went out and got chipotle’s new vegan chicken burrito the minute we had a chance, and—-holy shit! it MORE THAN LIVES UP TO ALL THE HYPE! this thing is phenomenal!
the garden blend is made with gardein’s chick’n, which is already one of our favorite meat substitutes ever, and chipotle really knows how to cook with this stuff. the soy meat was moist, chewy, and flavorful beyond belief. add that to what was already an awesome vegan burrito, and you’ve got heaven.
as of now the garden blend burrito is only available at the beverly hills and beverly center locations, but hopefully it will expand to other stores soon. we got our burrito from the bev cen chipotle, and since we were the first vegan customers they even gave us our meal FOR FREE. way to go chipotle, i fucking love you!
LA, go try this burrito ASAP. you will love it. oh, and we did confirm when we ordered that chipotle does indeed cook their vegan items separately. (see, it didn’t hurt to ask!)
I <3 CHIPOTLE

Read this. Am now in Chipotle Beverly Center eating a fucking amazing burrito with Gardein. I wish I could post a pic to this comment, it’s so AMAZING. As QG says: GO GET ONE!!!!

Come on Studio City!! I hate crossing the hill!!! As Dave Grohl said it best, All hail 818!!

Get your 818 asses over to 323-land ASAP! You will not be sorry. Seriously. Check it out.
-
culver city next please!
hopefully they did/will add it to their online ordering menu
-
I’m about to go over the hill to try this thing…now only if I can find another reason to be there besides eating.
-
SO SO pumped. I’ve been sending my Denver family and my DC friends to check it out for me, only to hear jealousy-inducing RAVE reviews. Absolutely doing this for dinner tonight.
-
This looks so amazing. I LOVE Gardein. Can’t wait to try this… Someday!

http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/gardein/gardein-chickenAt 700+ calories and 17 to 30 grams of fat it better be good! (depending on your fillings)
Sodium is off the chain. If their tortillas weren’t 9 grams of fat and they didn’t oil their rice, this could actually be awesome. I think right now it could be approaching 40% of calories from fat. Would like to see some precise data on it, its fast food, though so I can’t be food policing it up! -

@lex: Some of us don’t care about that stuff 😛 Now GET IN MY BELLY, BURRITO! Seriously, Meaner is right, a Chipotle burrito is a crap-ton of food. I never eat an entire one in one meal, because I just can’t!
@JW: Lame ass? Hardly. It’s two blocks away. I’m walking there to get mine tonight!
So, yeah. Now they just need to get Daiya and Tofutti sour cream and it’ll be the perfect burrito. Baby steps…
-
Yay! This is great news!!! It feels especially good that Chipotle came through as I was inspired by your site to also email the company to ask for this. I am sure it will taste even better now that I was invested in it coming to LA. I will be officially welcoming all 700 calories of it this weekend:)
Thank you so much Mr Meaner and Quarry Girl for all you do for our taste buds.

@ mr meaner: Riverfront Times linkage, you’re speaking my native language!

Glad to hear & thanks for sharing. Dinner tonight has just been decided..Thanks!

WTF? I’m leaving for CHIPOTLE right FUCKING now. I work at Cedars, three blocks from the Bev Cen…

It was yummy. I thought I wasn’t missing anything with the plain burritos, since they’re pretty tasty, but this showed me what I was missing.

Yes! Though I wish it hadn’t taken this long to get it out here, I can’t wait to try it! :p Will all locations eventually have it, or are they still testing it out to see how it’ll sell?
-
I’m saying it…I was letdown. Gardein really didn’t make a difference as I couldn’t taste it in the burrito. Need to season the gardein better…take a few hints from purgatory.

Shucks I’m trying desperately to think of an excuse to drive all the way to Beverly Hills or the Beverly Center tomorrow so I can stop by one of the locations that has this. There must be something I need to do over there, right? Hehe.

Your blog looks superyummy with nice picture of chipotles vegan garden blend. it was nice going through your blog.
-
YES! Lets Go LA!!! All my VEGAN stand up!!! Chipotle get a move on it and put it in every location!!!
-
everybody go to your local chipotle and request them to add the vegan gardein chicken to the menu…….
-
This is awesome. I just ate at Chipotle yesterday, in OC though, so no garden blend. I’m looking forward to trying one with that sexy garden blend though! As for fat and calories, Chipotle burritos are totally huge, like everyone is saying, so one burrito probably lasts most of us 2-3 eatings at least….so the nutritional info doesn’t scare me. Plus, I like that you can see the ingredients, as they make your burrito, so you know exactly how much of each filling you’re getting. And I mean, for the people who are super worried, get a burrito bowl with a lettuce base and snap, less fat and calories right thurr.
-
Thanks for the tasty looking picture. I was planning to wait until Friday to try the burrito, but maybe a trip to Beverly Hills is warranted tonight. I hope they have enough gardein in stock for the hoarde of vegans about to descend upon them.
-
That burrito looks freakin’ huge. How big is it actually? Like chihuahua sized?
-
818 PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
I can’t wait to get that in some soft taco goodness.
-
Why do people say it’s huge? It’s not. It looks freaking wonderful. And it’s got to be in my belly now. 700kcal is not a lot, for god’s sake.
-
Went today and it was delicious! I hope they have it at the Westwood location soon!
-

@sophia I’m sorry, but a Chipotle burrito is fucking huge and cannot be finished by mere mortals.
-
brett May 1st, 2010 at 13:06
@sophia Perhaps not, but that burrito is about 1400mg of sodium. That’s a f-ton of salt.

If I didn’t have a wedding to go to in two days I would head over there right now! But 700+ calories is just way to much to stuff in my belly and still try and wear that dress! Haha
Can’t wait until I get back though! I will try one out right away! First Starbucks, now Chipotle.. this is awesome!
Chipotle is run by McDonalds Corp now though, and I wish Mickey D’s would follow their own lead and make their veggie burgers vegan friendly!!
-
Stephanie-
McDonald’s sold all of their interest in Chipotle and cut all ties with them several years ago. -
VEGAN CHICKEN, WHAT HIPPOCRITES,
CHICKEN IS CHICKEN, NOT BEANS, TO CALL
BEANS CHICKEN IS JUST PLAIN ludicrous..
P.S. IF IT IS MURDER TO EAT MEAT, THEN
GOD IS A MURDERER, SINCE HE TELLS US
IN THE BIBLE WHAT TO EAT AND NOT EAT…
SO EVIDENTLY, IF THAT IS YOUR WAY OF THINKING,
THEN EVIDENTLY YOU DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE.
WITHOUT THE BIBLE, THEN THERE IS NO SUCH THING
AS MURDER ANYWAY. -
