new menu at hugo’s restaurant: it’s official
5January 28th, 2010hugo's restaurant, LA restaurantshey guys, i know i teased it the other day, but this is just a quick reminder that as of today the new menu at hugo’s restaurant has officially launched and is officially awesome. both the west hollywood and studio city location are offering loads of additional exciting vegan items, and everything i’ve tried so far has been amazing.
i took my parents to hugo’s yesterday to check out the new offerings, and both of them agreed it was some of the best “vegan food” they’ve ever had. here is the new stuff we tried:
first off, the green tamales are a MUST. i was a fan of the normal tamales on the old hugo’s menu, and these are like 1000 times better. perfectly moist and fluffy corn infused with flavorful spinach, these tamales really hit the spot. they are listed in the starter section of the menu, but they make for a really great and light main course.
for my meal, i ordered the new lentils, leafy greens and rice…which is available as a burrito or a casserole. i chose the casserole option without vegan cheese, and i can say this is honestly the best dish i’ve eaten at hugo’s to date. it was basically a huge dish of fluffy rice, small brown lentils, sauteed greens and the most incredible avocado sauce i’ve ever tasted. the inside of it didn’t photograph very well—but seriously take my word for it, it was a amazing. it’s one of those large meals that you can eat all of and not feel bloated or weighed down. so light, so healthy tasting, and so damn delicious.
so get to hugo’s asap and try the new stuff. oh and don’t forget the chili cheese fries!

Hugo’s makes the best tamales in town. I can’t wait to try the green ones.

I tried these tamales yesterday!
The corn tamale dough is sweet and firm … and PERFECTLY offset by the tangy, succulent tomatillo sauce.
Hugo’s sauces are brilliant!
HIGHLY recommended.

Just went there last night, and the fries were awesome. Ryan got the lentils, leafy greens, and rice as a burrito and it was so good! That sauce is amazing. I can’t wait to try the rest of the stuff – including those tamales!
