finally tried flore…
7July 15th, 2008flore, LA restaurants…and wow, i was impressed! the food was just incredible, and i managed to show up at a time when it wasn’t crowded and the atmosphere was pleasant. yay! here’s to one of LA’s tastiest breakfasts! thanks flore!
tofu benediction: fluffy sliced tofu, tomato slices, kale and avocado piled atop toasted batard and smothered in our own take on hollandaise sauce. served with tempeh bacon. $9.95
breakfast burrito: tofu scramble, tempeh bacon, potatoes, cashew cheese and avocado wrapped in a tortilla. served with pico de gallo and a side of fruit. $8.95now as you know, i love saying what annoys be about any restaurant, or how i think they can improve. the thing about flore is, there’s nothing wrong with it—except maybe that there’s too much delicious food to choose from.
they offer a full brunch menu on weekends from 10am – 1pm—we showed up exactly at 10 to ensure a table. by the time we left, the outside patio was packed, but inside where we were sitting, we were still the only ones.
service was stellar, and the food arrived quickly—i was chowing on the delicious tofu benediction within 15 minutes of walking through the door.
the kale was piled high on the plate and slathered in the yummiest sauce i’ve ever tasted. i dunno what hollandaise sauce is supposed to taste like, but it can’t be any better than this. the perfect creamy accompaniment to all the fresh vegetables!
the tempeh bacon was delectable as well. perfectly cooked—slightly crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, and full of flavor. it was sooooooooo good dipped in all that sinful sauce. i also recommend it with flore’s unique hot sauce. ask your server, they will bring a small pot to your table.
the breakfast burrito was MASSIVE! definitely big enough for two to share, maybe with a side as well. it was filled with all the things that are great about breakfast: tofu, bacony scramble, and potatoes. once we spiced it up a bit, it was perfect.
seriously, flore fucking rocks. even with my gut stuffed to the max, i couldn’t help but eye the other customers’ food as i walked out thinking, oooooh i wonder what that is….and, i’ll have to try some of that next time. and i’m just talking about brunch—flore has a whole lunch and dinner menu as well! i can’t wait to go back.
i recommend you get there early though. getting trampled by a stampede of hipsters isn’t fun.

Agreed. That place is quality. The kid and I shared the tofu salad sandwich the other day which I ordered for his sake, thinking it would be dull – it was so comforting and delicious. Just perfect. It makes me so happy that this place is packed. Oh, and nice photos – you do the food justice.

Miranda does a great job over there. I use to go to her other cafe in downtown a lot. Tierra Cafe. They had a vegan brunch buffet every Saturday morning.

Had the breakfast burrito today, and I am not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best vegan menu items I have *ever* eaten.
I could only eat half…the thing was fatter than my forearm
The potatoes were cooked to perfection; the tofu was seasoned amazingly well; the bacon added a nice texture and flavor; and the creaminess of the cashew cheese and avocado was a perfect compliment to the rest of the fillings.
God DAMN it was good! WOOOO!

I finally stopped by Flore for take-out. I picked up the vegan tuno sandwich for lunch, it was very good. I will be going back for sure.
