a gastropub in los angeles with 25 impressive beers on tap and a delicious vegan option? yep, it’s true. if you wanna get your drink (craftsman-style in my case) and enjoy a two-course vegan brunch, look no further than boho in hollywood.

boho has been open for less than a year, but their beer selection has already made them one of my favorite bars in town. other than blue palms and the verdugo, i can’t think of anywhere with such a great beer selection. plus unlike the two joints i just mentioned, boho has awesome hours and decent parking (they are in the same complex as the archlight theatre, and they validate!).

the rotating beer list that always boasts several international selections would keep me going back time and time again…but as an added bonus, boho also has a vegan option on their sunday brunch menu. while their one vegan item is merely a tofu scramble, it’s a damn good one…and even better when you consider the fact you can eat it while sipping on imported beer for a reasonable price in the heart of hollywood.

the vegan tofu scramble comes with a choice of starter, and i highly recommend the market salad which the bartender confirmed is vegan as well…

while it may not seem like there is much to this small pile of mixed greens, it is absolutely phenomenal. the leaves are all delicate and fresh, extremely high quality. and the light vinaigrette dressing provides the perfect coating; the right amount of oil, tangy-ness and salt.

the scramble itself is a big hot mess of tofu and vegetables that will satisfy your hunger. my plate was stacked high with freshly cut breakfast potatoes, fluffy tofu, sauteed mushrooms, red onion and leafy spinach. (the dish usually comes with roasted peppers as well, but i hate them…so i ordered it without).

while this vegan brunch isn’t something i would travel across town for specially—it’s a damn good option, considering you can get drunk on high quality beer while you eat. plus, the atmosphere at boho is just so damn inviting. it’s all so cushy, comfy and plush. you’ll feel like you’re eating in a really cool, rich, old dude’s dining room…complete with antique oil paintings, relaxing couches, chandeliers and beatles music on rotation.

boho might just be my new favorite bar in los angels. 25 beers on tap and vegan sunday brunch option?! YEAH! seeya there next weekend?

again, i’m pretty sure the vegan option is only available during sunday brunch…but boho has great beer 7 days a week.

  • I LOVE Boho. It’s where I discovered Allagash Curieux, and I’ve been in love ever since. It’s also a little cheaper than Cafe W as (another decent choice – ask for the vegetarian menu, it has about 1/3 to 1/2 vegan options on it). I also think the decor is comfy, though some people think it’s weird. Whatever.

  • The scramble looks kinda pricey for what you get, but I might have to splurge one weekend if only to get some bottomless mimosas!

  • I gotta admit the look of that scramble ain’t doing it for me. Did they forget that scrambled tofu should actually be… well, scrambled? What’s up with that big ol’ monster chunk?!? I take your word for it that it tastes good but the presentation isn’t very appetizing. I wish they had more vegan options throughout the day, it’s a nice place to kick back, would be a lot nicer with more good stuff to eat.

  • Ewwwww…. I was just reading their menu, got excited for a second when I saw they have hummus, then nearly puked at the realization that they put anchovies in it! Anchovies in hummus? That’s just straight up nasty.

  • You can definitely make a better version of this at home.

  • yosoy, foodeater and llamakiller: you may all be right, but i would probably order this again. i am a BIG BEER FAN, so the fact they have anything on the menu i can eat is exciting to me! i wouldn’t go just for the food though.

  • Foodeater, that’s disgusting! I think even most omnivores would find that gross.

  • That “scramble” looks vile. If you are ever in Philly, we have plenty o’ [really good] beer bars with more vegan options than a white slab of mush.

  • okay everybody, i think i have acknowledged that this was not the best scramble on earth. but to call it “VILE”? it was totally edible and tasty. and here in LA, it’s almost impossible to find a place that serves tap beer and has vegan options.

if you can think of somewhere else, tell me!

  • to all you haterizers, that picture really didn’t do the scramble justice (was dark at the bar). it was actually pretty good. Yeah, not the best vegan scramble on earth but the point of this post wasn’t to highlight a great food choice, more to talk about Boho as a whole and to draw your attention to an above-average vegan offering in the kind of place that would usually not cater to us at all.

I don’t know of anywhere in LA one can enjoy good beer and food like this in a bar atmosphere. That alone makes BoHo special.

Oh, and @foodeater – I’m 100% with you on ANCHOVIES in hummous. I’m feeling queasy just thinking about that.

  • AND, kevin, why did I just discover your amazing blog just now? I’m all over it….

  • Hah, I wish I wasn’t so lazy or my blog would have more posts. Or maybe too many nights drinking. Or both.

My buddy Brett does more of the food posts. He is experimenting with seitan recipes like weekly!

  • I agree about the anchovies in the hummus being weird and gross. I often do a double take or forget why I can’t order the hummus when I’m there, then I see the anchovies…

I think one salad might be vegan or veganizeable. I’ve also had the fries. I LOVE their homemade ketchup, but who knows what else they put in the fryer? So YMMV.

But I’m with Team Quarrygirl on this one. It has the BEST beer list in Hollywood. No need to drive all the way out to Father’s Office (which has a MUCH smaller, much less vegan menu anyway). In fact, I’ve never been to a really good pub that’s this big and has something a vegan can eat! I was recently at Laurel Tavern and it was a no-go in the food department, and they had less beer selection. BoHo seriously has 20 beers on tap, rotate a few out weekly, and have tons of bottles, too. And these are smaller breweries from all over the US, and various foreign brews as well. If you like beer, please just go! Or grab a drink after a movie at ArcLight. And it’s nice that they at least try – their menu does say, “vegan tofu scramble.”

  • Hey, just wanted to give you the heads up that Boho is No’ mo’. Closed… 🙁
