bear republic now vegan-friendly. racer 5 is all mine!
3May 20th, 2011otherwith the rapture looming over our heads, what better way to spend the last day on earth than with a solid IPA?
bear republic’s racer 5 has been a forbidden fruit to us vegans (let’s keep with the biblical theme, har har!) due to the use of gelatin in the filtration process for quite some time…but as of early 2011, the brewery has changed their ways.
coveted bear republic brews including racer 5, hop rod, red rocket, xp and big bear are all now run through a centrifuge, which has replaced the animal filtration process—making them totally suitable for the staunchest of vegans. squeee! be warned though, specialty brews may be made at a different location…and may not be vegan.
racer 5 and its siblings have been vegan-friendly for awhile, but it still feels like a bit of a secret. just spreading the word so you can go drink, drink, drink and be ill tonight…!
cheers!
PS: huge thanks to kevin and brett from vegan brew…and also to jeffro for sending me this info!
PPS: racer 5 really is the bee’s knees. i’m no beer writer, so i’ll spare myself the embarrassment and just give you the info from the BR website:

Great news! I have always avoided their beers because of this. Cheers!
