usually quick bites are submitted by readers, but today i have one of my own. friday was the six year anniversary of my husband and i’s first date…and we decided to celebrate in true QG style: by hitting up a bar and a restaurant. we started off at our favorite local pub, the surly goat, and then took a 15 minute stroll down the road to hugo’s for some eats. i’m happy to report that everything was lovely.

New American Veggie Burger: an outstanding combination of organic sprouted mung beans, organic brown rice, assorted fresh vegetables, mushrooms, pumpkin & sunflower seeds, herbs and spices fried crispy. Served with onion, lettuce, tomato, Vegenaise and your choice of any burger toppings. $12.60

my husband went with the new american veggie burger, which never disappoints. it’s seriously one of the best vegan burgers in town with its homemade patty made from assorted vegetables and seeds. be sure to let the staff know you’re vegan when ordering, so they can advice you on a choice of bread.

Create a Plate with brown rice, vegetables, salsa, and vegan soup of the day. $12.65

for my meal, i kept it simple with the create a plate. this comes with a choice of several different grains, vegetables, beans, and sauces—the possibilities are endless! i went with the vegetable of the day, brown rice, tomatillo salsa, and vegan soup of the day. the vegetables wound up being cauliflower, sweet potato, zucchinis and parsnips…all delicious. but my favorite part of the plate by far was the soup of the day…

    vegan lentil and onion soup

most of us know hugo’s restaurant as the king of vegan brunch, but let me assure you, it cleans up right nice for dinner! we had a wonderful romantic meal, and i’m looking forward to hitting up hugo’s again in the evening asap. check them out on your anniversary!

  • Are these photos real? I question whether this blog has the budget to photograph vegan food, and I am hoping these are not stock photos which have been photoshopped to look vegan. 🙂

Always a fan of a well-made vegan burger. (I’ve had some awful ones at places where they meant well but didn’t know quite what they were doing.)

Oh yea, gosh, forgot to say: Happy Anniversary!!!!:-)

  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Horace, we can verify that Quarrygirl happens to be a talented photographer who photographs the food just as it is presented at the table, (although, maybe the onions were separated on the burger. . .?) – not just at our restaurant, but others as well.

Personal aside: we make veggie meatballs from the same recipe for spaghetti-and. They are sooo gooood w/ marinara.

  • Happy anniversary!! I do love mung beans and rice quesadilla from Hugo’s. I can’t wait to try New American Veggie burger next time I go.

Speaking of not so tasty veggie burgers, the blandest veggie patty I’ve tasted was from Aroma café! Yikes, I had to keep pouring salt, pepper and etc. to liven up the burger but OMG it was the tasteless thing I’ve ever eaten!

    Again, Happy Happy anniversary QG!

  • Try this veggie burger with the Tika Masala sauce. Amazing!

  • If a zombie could be in a veggie patty form, it would be that New American veggie burger

    Hugos rocks though
