the all you can eat vegan buffet at savyon that takes place every sunday is going to raise its prices. that means tomorrow is the last day to get it for just $8.99. vegans apparently eat A LOT, so savyon is upping the price by 2 bucks, but they are also adding dessert to the buffet…so i guess it all evens out.

mr. kate recently raved about the buffet, and got some lovely photos of it as well. it consists of mainly mediterranean fare with stuff like wraps, sandwiches, hummus, grape leaves, vegetables, salads, stews, and a falafel bar. mr. kate did bemoan the lack of dessert options, but it looks like savyon is gonna fix that starting next week.

anyways, go eat your face off this sunday on the cheap!

  • yeahhhh! thanks for letting us know, quarrygirl! i wonder what they are going to include as the dessert next week. if their desserts are as awesome as his main courses, i can’t wait! 🙂
shame that madeleine bistro and pure luck may be closing 🙁 the vegans of la have to save these great restaurants for present and future generations! it sucks how my favorite veggie restaurants may be closing. 🙁 i hope savyon cafe’s vegan buffet stays with us!

  • FYI, meetup group Single Vegetarians will be having a meetup at Savyon on Sunday, May 1.

  • Hmmm I was thinking of going to this on the way to the Festival of Books tomorrow, but if this means it’s gonna be super-crowded from some meet-up group combined with the last day of the lower price, maybe I’ll go at a later date.

  • You’re going to miss some good stuff if you don’t go!

Here are a few teasers for the Savyon Cafe vegan buffet on Sunday, May 1:

Savyon will be making a vegan chili (has to be slow cooked overnight to perfection), adding three new kinds of vegan panini sandwiches, a Mediterranean harvest salad, and a delicious vegan Mediterranean style bean soup.

In addition, Savyon will be adding a Thai theme this week including a delicious Pad Thai and a Thai curry dish.

  • Gauri Radha गौरी राधा

Doesn’t seem too unreasonable (even with the price hike.)

  • There weren’t many people at all today when I was there (1:20PM), and there was a lot of great food! I don’t know how they will be able to keep the vegan buffet if they don’t get more people coming. They could use way more support I think.

  • Yes, they do need more support from the vegetarian/vegan community, not just for their Sunday vegan buffets, but also during the week. They have a special vegan menu on weekdays and apparently NOBODY has ever been in and asked for it!

  • Yes, it is indeed a shame that L.A. doesn’t have better public transit.

  • Who is going to the Savyon Cafe vegan buffet on May 8? I AM!!

  • THE SAVYON CAFE ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BUFFET IS NO LONGER ALL VEGAN (as of July 2011).

The buffet now costs $12.99 ($14.25 with tax). They had 2 obvious meat dishes in the buffet. One was chicken and the other was a meat and pasta dish. They also had some kind of bean dish, but that had a meat broth base. The panini’s were vegetarian, but they made some vegan panini’s for me. There was still plenty of vegan food there for me to eat. They didn’t have any dessert though.

FYI, they offer the same buffet on Saturdays from 11:30AM to 4:00PM, and a dinner buffet on Saturdays from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.

    Some things they should do:

Update the info on their website to reflect the change in the price and to indicate that the buffet now has vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes.

Put labels on the buffet dishes so people will know what is vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Put up some screen doors to keep the flies out of the restaurant and out of the buffet.
