• vegan mac & cheese has improved at mac and cheeza!

November 23rd, 2010brittanyLA restaurants, mac and cheeza

over the summer i spent a fair share of my free time in downtown LA. there aren’t many vegan-friendly places in DTLA, let alone places you can go to late night on the weekends after a night of drinking. mac and cheeza became my go to because it’s affordable and open until 2am on fridays and saturdays. scooore!

back when mac and cheeza opened last february, i tagged along with qg to the soft opening. while i liked it back then, i thought the “cheese” tasted more like an alfredo sauce than a cheese sauce. WELL the cheese sauce has definitely improved since then and i found my winning combo of fixins – soy cheese, jalapeno and mushroom with the walnut topping. it’s tha fuckin’ BOMB.

baby mac with soy cheese, jalapenos, mushrooms and spicy toasted walnut topping. $7

so definitely check out mac and cheeza. it’s especially great after drinking a few 1903s at spring street bar.

  • I’m going to be downtown today! I know where I’m going for lunch!

  • seeing that picture reminds how happy i am they deliver to my building for when i’m feeling exceptionally lazy.

  • That does look absolutely scrumptious!

  • I’m glad they’ve changed their vegan cheese sauce. That was the one thing I wasn’t a fan of when I went earlier this year. The toasted walnuts are really good and the guys working there were super nice.

  • Gauri Radha गौरी राधा

    That looks delicious!!

  • Do you know how long ago they changed the cheese? I went here back in August and the cheese was ooook. If it changed since then I’m def going back! Great to take to the bars over there!

  • Some friends got a big vegan tray from them a few months back for a party and we weren’t impressed. It must’ve been the old cheese sauce, because it didn’t taste like anything, and even the pasta was crumbly. I was actually a bit embarrassed, because it was so bad I wouldn’t even take the leftovers home (no one had seconds) when the wife and I were the only vegans there. I just kept repeated that the vegan reviews had not been kind, even though everyone else in town was freaking out over the place.

  • Ahh I still find vegan mac and cheese exciting. Looks delicious. But I can’t believe they don’t have broccoli to mix in! Broccoli and mac and cheese is a sacred combo!

  • the food is pretty damn good there, but unreliable. they often run out of vegan cheese, so i find myself calling in advance now on weekend nights.
I went this past saturday around 9pm and they were closed. wtf?
