vegan village cafe to shut down this weekend :(
11October 29th, 2010LA restaurants, vegan village cafeanother one bites the dust. we are sad to report that this weekend, LA’s last remaining vegan soul food joint, vegan village cafe will be closing its doors. we went there a couple times and thought it was awesome, so this is very bad news indeed.
i called vegan village earlier today, and the person on the phone told me that they are slated to close this weekend, with their last opening hours to be sunday fron 11am to 6pm. she hinted that they may open again in the future, but no promises. she also said that the owner was sad to have to close the place down, so they were hoping for lots of folks to come out on sunday.
soul plate: your choice of fried fish or chicken with candied yams, greens and buttered corn. $13.95
my advice: CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN WITH SOME VEGAN SOUL FOOD! this may be your last chance to ever eat at vegan village cafe, and from what i hear, they are ready to PARTY this weekend. lemme suggest the mac and cheese OR anything containing soy fried chicken. lemme re-iterate, this is THE LAST VEGAN SOUL FOOD RESTAURANT IN LA. we have been sleeping on the job by letting places like this go under.
don’t let this chance pass you by. it’s just so sad to see another vegan restaurant closing. 🙁

Ditto on the bummer. Never been there, but soul food is great and it sucks that now there’ll be now more.

i am SUPER bummed 🙁 …i totally LOVED this place and even tried to go there tonight but i was too late (they were closing for the night) i hope they re-open soon!!!

No 🙁 It’s more like a banquet hall than an actual restaurant but we LOVE their food! Though we were like the only ones there when we went so I can’t say I’m too surprised. I’ll miss the fried “shrimp” and mac and cheese the most. *sigh*

Stuff I Eat is vegan soul. It is in Inglewood but still in the LA area.

This is reaaallly sad! my weekend is ruined. I loved their Mac & Cheese and spelt cornbread…and the desserts were the best ever. Their should be a law only 1 Thai Resturant per 100 mile radius and vegan soul food in every city.
