farewell cafe flourish! in other words, FUCK…THIS SUCKS :(
48February 24th, 2010cafe flourish (closed), LA restaurantsmore SAD SAD SAD news as yet another vegan restaurant closes its doors.
our beloved cafe flourish will be going out of business early next month. it started a few weeks ago when they shortened their business hours, and now it looks as though they’ve declared defeat. hear it in their own words:
Dear Cafe Flourish community,
First of all, THANK YOU for supporting us and being such FANTASTIC and faithful customers in the 11 months we have been open. Second of all, we are writing to let you know Cafe Flourish will be closing its doors on Saturday, March 6. Our last day of actual business will be Friday, March 5.
The business partners are amicably parting ways, and unfortunately, closing has become unavoidable.
Although we are heartbroken by this outcome, it has been our pleasure and honor to have provided and nourished you with our signature plant-based food. We are truly saddened to not be able to see you on the regular basis that we have grown accustomed to! You have contributed to us in ways beyond just being “customers”. You have become friends and family.
So, in honor of our time together, we invite you to join us in GRATITUDE & CELEBRATION of the cafe, 12-5pm Saturday, March 6. We will be celebrating you, our community, our success, our food, and our learning & growing process! We would love for you to help send our business out with a bang! There will be yummy snacks, music and a “yearbook” for you to sign π
In the meantime, we will be counting down our final days with daily discount specials. We look forward to serving and seeing you soon.

Thank you we love you!

I found out about this restaurant through your blog, and now I found out it is dead from your blog. Full circle.
-
This really is a travesty. Do you know the new hours? They don’t seem to be posted on their site.
-
Wow, that’s sad. I don’t go down to that area very often except for going to the El Rey sometimes. I was just down there yesterday and tried Cowboys and Turbans but I should have went to Cafe Flourish. I never would have heard of it except for reading about it here and it’s so small I’ve never seen it from the street.
I did notice that there are tons of food trucks in the Miracle Mile area, closer to LACMA and the Comcast building. Were they hurt by all the trucks?

Think about it folks…One of the city’s top three vegan restaurants is closing down. God forbid Cru or Elf suffer a same fate. So stop all this patronage to Chipolte and Toast and steak houses that also serve a steamed vegetable plate smothered in cow’s butter no doubt! Let’s support these GREAT restaurants that are catering entirely to us and make our voices crystal clear about not eating animals!

This makes me very sad.
I’m going to head there on Friday and my boyfriend has committed to having lunch there next Thursday & Friday, after he gets paid. We’ll most likely be there on the Saturday for its final day.
*sniff*

Aw, that was the closest vegan joint within walking distance from work. That being said – I didn’t go there THAT much. A lot of their food was a little too “off the shelf” for the prices charged…but good enough if I felt like walking to lunch. Oh wells…
-
location sucked, nothing healthy, didn’t like the parking, nice owner, but wasn’t much of a destination.
-
NO FUCKING WAY! Girl you know I’m pissed, as I swear up and down they have the best tempeh reuben in town. Their food was so awesome and totally healthy (I have hella high standards). This is a truly sad moment π
-
What a disappointment! Cafe Flourish was awesome and their BLT was my favorite!! Quarrygirl, thank you for the reminder to always support our favorite vegan restaurants before it is too late!
-
susielol February 25th, 2010 at 02:10
What!? No!!! My husband and I always split a reuben and BLT. We debate over which one is best but could never make a definitive decision π Can’t believe this place is closing down. This makes me sad.
-
What a travesty… your incessant use of vulgarity. Got no vocabulary or imagination, you just swear and think it’s cool.
-

Bummer. I ate there Tuesday. Not sure how the mobile trucks affected business as they were usually parked at least three blocks away.
-
Hey, Phred – you add the letters ‘PH’ in place of an ‘F’ in your name and you’re calling others out for lack of imagination?
Phuck yourself, phella.
-
Phred, here’s a novel idea for you: don’t like the site? Don’t read it. Fucking whiner.
Christy and susielol, my boyfriend LOVES Flourish’s reuben, whereas I am enamored of the BLTA.
-
I agree, Phred. It’s that attitude GRRRRL schtick being used way past sell by date. I guess it’s the thing you need to do if you’ve not got a lot of recognizable style going on.
I say it should be embraced and turned up to new levels.
“OMG, I’m so FUCKIN’ into this CUNTIN’ sandwich, FUCK FACE.”
“LAWL, This cupcake is so TWATTING good, you’ll SHIT yourself sideways, you bunch of TWUNTS.”
A combination of cutesy internetz lingo and tough-as-old-boots sweariness is a winning combination, you’d have to agree.
Perhaps this can progress until every other word is sweary and every post made is accompanied by an animated gif of her raising her hairy knuckle in front of her swastika-tattooed, scowling face?
Maybe a TV show is on the horizon. I already know what the tag line would be.
-
LOL at the people who are mad about cussing! I think the attitude is half of the reason why I read this blog (that and the pretty pictures).
There aren’t swear words in every post, so I don’t even know what Phred and Tron are talking about.
Maybe they can stick to reading G-rated blogs.
-
Wow Quarrygirl how could you do this? How dare you say a bad word on your own blog? That must mean you have swastikas tattooed on your face! You are a horrible person.
These losers need to get a grip.
-
Sounds like Tron reads every *fucking* word Quarrygirl writes.
Mission accomplished, QG!

Classic. Swearing is only bad if its meant in a bad way. Pheckin phools.
-
Zukibean February 25th, 2010 at 10:59
grr I just moved 3 blocks away and was hoping to stop by there often. π
-
veganinla February 25th, 2010 at 11:05
I can’t believe they are closing. They are close to me and I really like the food. The parking does suck so dinner was an issue.
Hey Phred (learn to spell) and Tron,
Go read a Disney blog if you don’t like it. Reading this blog is not mandatory. Tell Tinkerbell I said hello.
Oh, and fuck you!
-
It’s not that swearing is bad or scary. I can swear most of you under the table, you bunch of wet twats. See, it’s easy to do.
It’s when it’s utilized as forcefully and as self-consciously as on here. It’s that GRRRL thing that is just so played out now.
If it were accompanied with some clever wit, that’s another thing. But it’s not. Charlie Brooker it is not.
It’s blah, blah, blah, swear. It’s akin to Penny arcade, which is unfunny cack punctuated by the odd profanity, just for the sake of it. It’s trying too hard to be all attitudey by the self conscious use of profanity.
Other than that, great info. You bunch of thick cunts. π
-
oh no, ‘that GRRRL thing’?! THE FEMINISTS ARE COMING HOLY SHIT GET INSIDE
oh no, QG, you’ve gone and offended people. start typing like a lady this instant!
-
Tron blah blah blah blah GRRL this GRRL that. You don’t make any sense. This blog is hiarious.
Keep it up QG, don’t listen to Trons or trolls.

Wow. I can’t believe the audacity of people to post such rude comments while disparaging the writing of someone who clearly puts a ton of time, effort, brilliance, and love into writing a blog that many of us LA-vegans consider Bible-like. Not that you can’t criticize, free speech and all, it just continues to shock me. I <3 you and your writing skillz GRRRL (is that a phrase I'm just becoming aware of?) and at least it looks like you've got most of your readers on your side!
-
It’s not offensive in as much as offensively tedious.
Now, I’ll just wait for somebody to respond saying that I’m tedious for mentioning the tedium. Which is probably as much as can be expected from you shit wits. π
Shame it’s fucking closing, eh?
-
Gauri Radha February 25th, 2010 at 12:02
Too bad they’re closing, I hadn’t tried this place yet.
(And I adore this blog by the way.)
-
Jayden February 25th, 2010 at 12:08
I agree with Jessica. I think this blog is brilliant, and I love how it’s constantly updated. I don’t find it tedious at all, quite the opposite actually. I love the content and sense of humor.
Thanks a lot for calling us shit wits, Tron. You seem like a bitter asshole. If you don’t like this blog, you sure are complaining about it in the wrong place.
-
I just read the other posts on the home page about raw cheese, Elf Cafe, Cowboys and Turbans, Gingergrass etc. I don’t find them tedious or even see the same language and profanity as in this post. I’m lost at what people are complaining about.
-
This blog is well (and humorously!) written with a wealth of information for us LA vegan folk! get a fucking sense of humour Phred and Tron! If you don’t want swears, go to Disneyland!

“someone who clearly puts a ton of time, effort, brilliance, and love into writing a blog that many of us LA-vegans consider Bible-like. ”
Yea, I agree. This place and Lex’s forum are awesome resources for vegans in Los Angeles. I feel really thankful for these sites.
-
Since I live in Santa Clarita I only got to go to Cafe Flourish once, but that lunch was some of the best food I’ve eaten in my entire life. I’m really sad about this.
-
“Itβs akin to Penny arcade, which is unfunny cack punctuated by the odd profanity, just for the sake of it. Itβs trying too hard to be all attitudey by the self conscious use of profanity.”
Oh, it’s fucking on now.
-
Wow! I am sad it closed.
I find all the arguing about swearing a silly waste of time.
Go vegans! The universe thanks you!
-
T-R-A-G-I-C!!! I LOVED their vegan pizza & would have been there all the time if only I lived closer!! π The owner was a sweetie too & the food was clearly made w/so much love in it! π I bet that expensive location (w/not great parking) may have been the nail in the coffin. Oh how it pains me to see such an artful vegan business leave!!…
