this valentine’s day the smiths album, and song, meat is murder turned 25 years old (a good number if you ask me), and we can’t help but put up a totally gratuitous post to celebrate. after all, we do use the “meat is murder” phrase in our banner—-speak it!

the smiths are my 100% favoriteist band of all time. this song still chills me every time i hear it – so hauntingly accurate. yay morrissey and marr, though i hope to hell that I look better than moz when I am 50.

This really is a most chilling song, both lyrically and musically. Meat really is murder and why is something so obvious to me and other people here so acceptable to others?
I am in despair at humanity.

This song came out when I was 10 yrs old and now is the first time I’ve heard it. Has anyone heard of Free Me by Goldfinger? Damn good song too.

25 years…Holy shit. I was a vegetarian for a year when this song came out and I was thrilled to hear it. Meat is still Murder and yes, I’d hit it. Quarrygirl I’m old enough to be your unwed pregnant teen mom.

Holly, I went on You Tube and watched Free Me by Goldfinger. Thank you for mentioning it. I seriously cried like I did as a child. You know, that ugly face, mucusy cry? 🙁 Meat IS murder.
