some things in life are just so fucking good, they are worth driving some extra miles for. stuff i eat in inglewood is definitely one of those things. the all vegan restaurant located amongst a tidy row of shops on north market street focuses on fresh, healthy food with an abundance of colors and flavors.

Lava Burrito: Organic Black beans, seasoned tofu, wild rice, savory sauce, fresh salsa, guacamole and mixed greens and smothered with sauteed mushrooms and broccoli. $13.00

stuff i eat is a small dimly lit cafe with plush furniture and loads of ambiance, the downside of which means my photos are a little dark and don’t even come close to portraying how beautiful this food was in person. but like the photos don’t do the food’s appearance justice, my descriptions won’t be able to describe how off the chart good it tasted. this was some of the best food i’ve ever had. and i’m not just saying that.

after an incredible dining experience several months ago, my husband and i returned to stuff i eat for the first time over the weekend. i don’t know why we left it so long to go back, because man, the food was just even better than the first time. we went at around noon and shared both a breakfast and a lunch entree.

for our lunch meal, we split the lava burrito (pictured above), which is a savory mix of tofu, beans, salsa and guacamole all rolled up in a tortilla and completely covered in vegetables. i mean, just look at the photo up there! DO YOU EVEN SEE A BURRITO? nope, it’s buried way too deep beneath fresh salad leaves, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes and corn. not just that, but the whole thing came accompanied with a homemade side of carrot-mango dressing which was absolutely divine. i mean, come on, i live in southern california—i know a good burrito when i taste it. and this was one of the best vegan burritos i’ve ever had. and it wasn’t just about all the fresh vegetables; the highlight of the dish was definitely the orange creamy sauce it was slathered with. super rich, super thick, but at the same time….not gut-bomb inducing. gah, i am getting hungry just thinking about this thing!

Breakfast Plate: Organic yellow polenta, cottage organic fried potatoes, tofu scrambler, tofu sausage, organic mixed salad and toast. $12.00

we also split the breakfast plate—a massive platter of fried potatoes, tofu scramble, tofu sausage, salad, toast and polenta grits. every single bite of this dish was exceptional, bursting with the kind of flavor that requires hours of preparation. from the soft yet crispy toast, to leafy greens, to the two different style of tofu…everything was ace. not to mention the onion-infused breakfast potatoes! just oily enough, but not overly greasy. perfection!

oh and just because i want you to get an idea of how huge the portion size is, here is a picture of the polenta grits that come with the meal:

dude, that is like a TROUGH OF GRITS. and they were so creamy and tasty.

in addition to having hearty portions of delicious food, stuff i eat also has great atmosphere and friendly service. everyone working there was so nice and helpful, and the lady cooking our meal came to our table to explain the special dressing she made for the day. it was really obvious that they cared about doing a good job and were interested in our reaction to the food.

so los angeles vegans, i can’t urge you enough to make the drive out to inglewood and eat at stuff i eat. i know it’s a trek, but aren’t all the best vegan restaurants in this city? please go eat here asap, because as far as i’m concerned, it’s some of the best food around.

unfortunately, my husband was not a fan. so we haven’t been back.

  • mmm, that looks GOOD. i <3 grits.

  • um, the portion sizes at this place look like they could feed even ME for more than 2 meals. yowza!

qg, i’ll go to the 101 with you, i love the no huevos rancheros!

  • Hi Quarrygirl, I know you never BS us so was the place located in a safe place? I would LOVE to go but I just want to make sure it’s not in an unsafe location to take my gf too. Thanks Quarrygirl!!

  • @thomas: i went during the day and felt totally safe. it’s in a nice part of town with cute little shops all lined up. there is tons of metered parking. i think you and your GF will be fine. 🙂

  • Adding it to my ever-growing list of places in LA to eat on my next trip… Dude, that looks amazing!

  • I’m so glad that you’re featuring Stuff I Eat again! This is one of my favorite vegan restaurants. I have a serious food crush on the enchilada pie. Please everyone, don’t let the address scare you. This place is in “old town” Inglewood, a really quaint, safe part of the city. Also, they play great soul and reggae music!

  • Dear Quarry Girl,

First, we just want to say YOU ROCK!! We just want to let you know how much we appreciate your fantastic website/blogspot. Not just for your amazing reviews of our restaurant (BTW – your next meal is on us ;), but for your time & efforts researching quality vegan restaurants, going so far as to test the food for animal by-products! No one is doing what you’re doing ( as far as we know). You’re doing very important work.
We love your photos and your reviews have brought us ( and continue to bring us) lots of folks in from all over LA. And for the record , for those of you wary about coming to Inglewood, our restaurant is located exactly 1 minute away from the Inglewood Police Dept. We could have opened our restaurant anywhere, but the need is in places like Inglewood where there’s a dearth of healthy establishments which is killing folks, literally.
Not to get on a ‘soapbox” rant, we just basically want to send a huge thank to folks like yourself, Maria and everyone who supports our place and we promise to continue to providing quality vegan food & great customer service. We love Ya’ll!!! 🙂

  • We went on Saturday and the food was excellent. They were very nice and the service was great. I’ll be heading back there sometime this week.

  • THIS PLACE IS FAN-TAB-U-LOUS!!! If I lived there closer I would prob’ly be there on the daily, really. The portions are ENORMOUS, the food is bangin’ the service, sweet, the atmosphere, artsy/cool, the need, great! Go support them! When last I went it was a Saturday night & my hubby & I were the only ones there! 🙁 I know of other places w/inferior food & service are packed while too few know about the diamond in the rough, so let’s spread the news & support!!!!
    🙂 Candy
