this is the moment i’ve been waiting for…finally, a vegan secret supper club in los angeles! “a moveable feast” is a limited seating, gourmet, underground dinner series created by kim garr of c’est la vegan/c’est la v bakeshop and alix bannon of cute and delicious/vegan bake sale that takes place once a month at a secret location. they implement a “pay what you want” policy, with the suggested amount being between $75-$125. for that you get a stunning 5 course meal along with a signature cocktail (non-alcoholic version available) in an intimate speakeasy setting. their next dinner, which will feature mediterranean cuisine, is scheduled for july 9th at 7pm somewhere in studio city. you can make reservations via email, but there are only 6 spaces available, so act fast!
i was lucky enough to attend the inaugural movable feast last month, and i can honestly say it was one of the finest meals i’ve ever eaten. six guests gathered around a long dining table, made friendly conversation, and enjoyed course after course of incredible vegan food for over three hours. here’s a look at what we ate. special thanks to little vegan planet…who took all the amazing photos in this post, except the one of the lemonade!
upon arrival, guests were served a glass of homemade lemonade with or without alcohol. i ordered mine sans the booze, and it was absolutely lovely. cool and refreshing, perfect for a warm evening.

on saturday we teamed up with our pals from tony’s darts away and the roxy to present the second LA vegan beer fest, and it was a blast! attendees enjoyed unlimited pours of craft beer from breweries such as stone, deschutes, eagle rock, north coast, and many more…live music from great local bands…and a huge selection of vegan food from doomie’s, seabirds, mandoline grill, fresh fries, veg it up, the frankenstand, the mad kettler, and luscious organic desserts.
we’ve got loads of photos from the event, so sit back and enjoy. if you didn’t make it to the vegan beer fest this time around, seriously don’t miss the next one! doomie himself was wandering the fest dressed up like a rabbit and showing off his new vegan corn dogs. here’s a photo of him taken by little vegan planet…

June 23rd, 2011more restaurants (not LA), san francisco, vegan events
there’s a huge rivalry between the san francisco giants and philadelphia phillies, and i’m not referring to something as trivial as baseball. nope, i’m talking about which home stadium has the best vegan beer and food options. cititzens bank park in philly topped peta’s most vegetarian-friendly stadium list for years, only to be beat in 2011 by san francisco’s AT&T park. kevin of vegan brew brought us a vegan major league baseball report from philly in may, and he went to a giants game a couple nights ago just to do a firsthand comparison. let’s see how san fran measured up…
Here are the vegan options at Giants Stadium…

the LA vegan beer fest will take place on june 25, 2011 at the roxy in hollywood from 1-5pm.
UNLIMITED BEER is included with general and VIP admission. and not just any beer, i’m talking good stuff from craft breweries all over the country like stone, dogfish head, green flash, north coast, deschutes and many more! plus, there’s a non-drinker/staightedge admission this year! VIP tickets get you early entrance to the fest at noon, plus access to a VIP lounge with special beer. you can purchase tickets here. proceeds will be donated to ARME, who have been rocking it lately with their beagle freedom project!
there will be loads of vegan food trucks and vendors, including the following:
doomie’s home cookin’! (one of our favorite restaurants in LA will be serving up home-cooked goodness. not sure what’s on their menu this year, but at the last beer fest they had jalapeno poppers, buffalo legs, empanadas, taquitos, sushi, shrimp cocktails, chocolate covered bacon, and VEGAN BEER CUPCAKES! oh my!)

good god, people! if you’ve never been to worldfest, i don’t even know how to describe it to you. the best i can do is to say that it’s like a super hippie, eco-friendly, and all vegan coachella with an emphasis on educational speaking rather than music. it took place last sunday in los angeles, in the valley, in a huge dusty field, just like it does every spring. the deal was: $5 for parking, $7 for admission, plus any food and beer you wanted buy inside. what did you get for your ticket price? several bands and “celebs” (i use that term quite loosely!) playing or speaking on the main stage, plus lectures and seminars in the various stages and “huts” scattered around the fest. not to mention animal adoptions, clothing vendors, and access to more vegan food than you could ever hope to try.
we attend worldfest every year, but not for the education or music…as you can probably guess, our interest lies solely in the sheer abundance and variety of food we can eat. EVERYTHING AT THE FEST IS VEGAN (supposedly), which means it’s just too much of an opportunity to pass up. PLUS, they have a beer garden sponsored by lagunitas: the perfect place for us to get sloppy on IPA with our friends and laugh at all the other nerds attending the fest that we’re having such a great time at. that’s exactly what happened this year.
you must forgive me, after the previous night’s feast that would feed a small country, we didn’t eat much food at worldfest this year. we did—however—get pix of most of the vendors, as well as our friends’ food. so hopefully you can live vicariously through their meals, just like we did on the day of the ‘fest!

clara’s cakes, the best teenage-owned-and-operated vegan bakery in the world has just expanded their menu of treats, and we’re here to verify that the new stuff is DELICIOUS!
over the weekend we had a chance to try out clara’s new whoopie pies, and they blew my little mind. i’d never even heard of a whoopie pie before going vegan, but these beauties are something to get excited about.
