hey everyone! as you may know, i’m out of town at the moment, but i wanted to send you guys a quick update from abroad to let you know that kind kreme is opening up its third shop in echo park today.

vegan soft serve topped with raw cacao nibs

the delicious raw, dairy-free ice cream parlor has tons of vegan options (some flavors contain honey), and is opening up in the old mooi location on sunset.

since i can’t go there today, go check it out and let me know how it is! i’m already a fan of both the valley and pasadena locations.

  • Kind Kreme is multiplying like bunnies!!! I haven’t been there in a while…maybe I should treat myself this weekend.

On a totally unrelated expansion note – I noticed a new Veggie Grill is being built in the Grove/Farmers Market on Fairfax! Awww yeah!

  • Gauri Radha गौरी राधा

    That’s great!!
Wish their prices were a little lower though, so that my non-vegan friends would be more inclined to try out a sundae or cone with me. Or wish I wasn’t broke so I could treat them all, hehe.

  • You hate me and my attempts at obtaining a girlish figure. Why do I subject myself to reading this stuff? Echo Park is too close for comfort. Bring on the Kind Kreme binges. Thanks for sharing. Thanks a lot.

  • Kind Kreme’s prices are bit high and small portions, have you checked out Scoops on Heliotrope and Melrose? They always have delicious vegan gelatos.
Someone mentioned Veggie Grill opening soon at the farmer’s market near the grove? I hope they open in the valley, soon!

  • Yes, Scoops is great! And such a perfect dessert after lunch at Pure Luck!

  • Scoops in West LA, too! The Palms one is nice – it’s smaller and one night I went in and there was only one vegan option, and it was about gone. I was sad, and wasn’t in the mood to make a fuss. I looked at my boyfriend and said there was nothing there I could eat. The owner overheard and apologized profusely! Every time we’ve been in since, there have been at least two vegan options.

  • Kindcreme’s prices are what happens when you pay the people who grow your food a living wage to do it right. Yeah, they’re high, but they’re appropriate.

I just drove by there today and didn’t see their sign… I totally would have recognized it! The Mooi sign is still up. But I’m very excited about this news. This is the ONLY place I can take my kids for an ice cream cone… no dairy, no gluten, and for the little one, no corn either (which means Scoops is out, as they won’t disclose, or possibly just don’t know, their ingredients).

  • FYI The phone number for KindKreme Echo Park is (323)481-8244

This place is awesome. They have lots of desserts which are not available at Pasadena or Studio City. Today there were chocolate truffles (lots of flavors), chocolate layered cheesecake, and chocolate cake. The cakes tasted amazing. There was also a chocolate raspberry cake. The ice cream flavor selection is comparable to Studio City (Pasadena has the most flavors at one time). The other goodies (Babycakes cookies and waffles) are the same as Studio City or Pasadena.

Sage Organic Vegan Bistro shares the space and they are also open today (I’m surprised QuarryGirl didn’t mention this?).

I can’t believe people are saying positive things about Scoops vegan ice cream? I tried 4 of their vegan flavors (Mocha Almond, Hazelnut Coffee, Maple Oreo, and another one which sucked) and they all tasted terrible and unnatural. Avoid at all costs and go to KindKreme!

  • The menus for Sage Organic Vegan Bistro are on their website:

    www dot sageveganbistro dot com

(I think direct links in comments require approval, so hopefully that one gets through)

  • I went to the Pasadena location. The prices are extremely high and will not warrant a second trip for me.

    2 bowls of 2 scoops each = $16!

  • Got a pint to go and it was really tasty (hazelnut chip) but I about laughed at the cashier when he told me it was $12. I’m used to paying the aforementioned “vegan tax,” and usually don’t have a problem doing so, but $12 for a pint? Uhm, no, don’t think so. It’s too bad because it’d be great to get some dairy eaters in to see how good vegan ice cream can be, but with those prices, I doubt KK will be doing much converting.

  • $12 for a pint of ice cream?!!!! How FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can anybody tell me what you order and what I’m missing about this place? How are they up to three locations? They’re friendly as heck and I would love to support them, but:

    1) Everything is wtf-expensive
    2) It’s the heaviest vegan ice cream I’ve had, like coconut milk congealed six times over
    3) There isn’t anything between your server and the ice cream, not very sanitary
    4) The ice cream sandwiches use cookies from BabyCakes, to my taste the worst dedicated vegan bakery in the country, and they’re stale to boot, basically sandpaper. Would it be that hard to use Michelle’s or Liz Lovely’s?
    5) Lousy decor and atmosphere, not that this is all that important

And yet they pack them in: I went to both the Studio City location and the Pasadena location on opening day to support the cause, and each time the place was hopping. My GF and I tried three things at SC and I tried two more alone at Pasadena and nothing hit the spot. Why does anyone go here when you can get the same quality or better vegan ice cream at Scoops for 1/3 of the price, or the Carvel stuff in Beverly Hills, or the awesome black cherry chocolate chip at Vegetable Delight up in the Valley? This place is like the vegan version of Sprinkles or something, it has me baffled.

  • ^^your an idiot

  • Thank you! Why are the Quarrygirl commenters so anti-KindKreme? They need to get real jobs so they can afford quality without complaining.

  • That was the wrong phone number. The correct phone number is (213)989-1718

  • The difference is because it is RAW vegan, not vegan. All the ingredients are alive still, nothing has been cooked, meaning on the nutrition and enzymes are still vibrant and vital in the food you are eating. To make this stuff costs a lot of money so the prices on raw food tend to be higher. They take raw nuts and fruit and powders and blend them up and put them in ice cream makers. Nothing is heated to kill off everything like other ice creams. So essentially, you are eating something that is VERY good for you. Worth the price.
