the best indian pizza (vegan): Topped with Spinach, Egg Plant, Cauliflower, Ginger, Garlic, Green Onions, Cilantro. $23.99

i spent new years weekend in san francisco. if that wasn’t awesome to begin with, my group of friends’ new years eve plans involved dinner at zante pizza. the option of having dinner at zante’s was presented to me over IM:

“hey, how does vegan indian pizza and $5 pitchers of beer on nye sound?”
    “UM, AMAZING”

    and so it was decided.

zante’s is located in bernal heights, the same neighborhood as everyone’s old favorite, maggie mudd. we showed up and were immediately seated. zante has $5 pitchers of beer, which we took advantage of while we were browsing the menu. everyone was pretty gung-ho on getting pizza… it was a wise choice. we ordered one large vegan pizza and one large vegetarian pizza.

the pizzas were delivered piping hot – an amazing crust topped with spinach, eggplant, cauliflower, ginger, garlic, green onions and cilantro. it was truly a vision, and it tasted even better than it looked. i ate way more than i’m willing to admit to because i just couldn’t stop. oh, and for the record, the vegan pizza disappeared quickly while the vegetarian pizza had 3 slices left at the end of the night. just sayin’.

  • ah, fuck. another place I really have to go in SF. my list is now so long thanks to queue-gee (QG) and her band of field reporters!

    That sounds fantastic.

  • I used to go to this place back in 2002-3. I’m surprised it is still around. It is good if you have few other vegan options or broke. I was soliciting for HRC and CalPirg at the time (lots of walking/door to door) and was both broke and had fewer Vegan Options. Schlepping out to Bernal Heights to get this from any (non-Mission) part of the city may not be worth it. Though if you were going to swing by Maggie Mudd’s anyway – have at it.

  • Oh wow, that pizza looks incredible! What kind of base sauce do you think they used? This sounds like an awesome flavor combo I’d love to make at home!

  • That indian pizza sounds great.
