nature’s grill in ventura
5July 16th, 2010LA restaurants, nature's grilla couple weeks ago two of my good friends got married (yay!), and to celebrate they planned a beach camping trip out in oxnard. camping for me means i’m stuck eating snacky things like chips and peanut butter pretzels because i’m not going to cook a veggie dog on a grill that’s covered in meat residue and i don’t have the foresight to bring, say, a sandwich. i’m good at being prepared like that.
so after a night of shoving my face full of tortilla chips and salsa, the next morning when one of my friends suggested we go in to ventura to check out the thrift stores i was all for it, hoping to find some real food.
we came across nature’s grill on main street, walked up to the counter and checked out the menu. honestly i saw the word “tempeh tacos” and didn’t really look at anything else.
i wish i had looked at the other things on the menu. while these weren’t BAD by any means, i just looked at the menu again afterwards and a lot of other things sounded better. impulse buy! anyway, these were decent. the sauce quickly soaked through the corn tortillas so they fell apart making the tacos very messy to eat. and the sauce wasn’t all that zesty like the menu said it was 🙁 coulda used some tapatio or something. also, the onion had obviously not been sliced fresh because they were super strong and left me with gross onion breath. ew.
i got a side of beans and rice with my tacos.
exciting, huh? it’s pretty hard to fuck up black beans (i mean i could eat them out of a can) so these made me happy. rice was like… rice. no seasoning or anything. wompwomp!
so if you’re in ventura and don’t feel like being ripped off at mary’s, nature’s grill is a good alternative. i don’t go to ventura often but when i go back i would like to try a couple other things on the menu.

Seriously….Vegan is not hard to do right. I mean, what is up with all the lame ass Vegan places???
I think next time I go, I’ll pack my own lunch.

I’ve been to Nature’s Grill several times and every menu item I’ve had was SUPER bland. Just completely devoid of flavor. You’re better off at the Indian place next door.

I kind of like bland dishes so I might make out just fine at this place.
(I actually hate spicy food, which is weird considering that I’m from India.) -
Those tacos look good, but kind of plain…
Also, I’m totally looking out for more of “Mary’s” husband’s trolling. 0_0
