as the seasons change, so do the salads at m cafe.

curried tempeh salad at m cafe

i hit up the melrose location recently and noticed that with the turn of spring, the celery root salad and winter vegetables were gone.

in place of maple roasted brussels sprouts, they had a tempting new offering of curried tempeh. i ordered it with my favorite chickpea dandelion deli salad, and a side of mushroom sushi. it was all wonderful, the only weird bit was that they charged me for the tempeh salad separately.

most of the salads at m cafe are available as part of a combo…but that isn’t the case with curried tempeh. even though the new dish isn’t any more expensive (actually it’s cheaper than lots of) the other salads, you have to get it on its own. this will cost you $3.75 for the small portion, which isn’t bad, considering how good this stuff is. it’s sweet, hearty, and mixed up with a tasty helping of vegan mayo.

    ….i love spring!

  • LOVE this dish! It is incredibly rich, delicious and unique! I wish there was an M Cafe in my town! Thanks for the super pictures…

  • Haven’t been to this place yet, must try it out soon.

  • I don’t know why I keep passing up on this salad. I’ll give it a shot next time.

Kinda bummed they changed their recipe for the tofu salad. It’s got more dill in it now and it seems ‘heavier’ somehow. The Culver City location changed the kind of bread it uses with this, too. I assume bc the old bread couldn’t hold up.

Not to sound like an old man, but change is hard. LOL.

Put the damn mac and cheese on the regular menu, pleeeaaasee!!!

  • The curried tempeh salad is REALLY good! I haven’t quite gotten over the shock of them taking the Melrose Muffaletta off of the menu. 🙁 🙁 🙁

  • The Muffaletta is gone?! Ouch. I didnt see the lentils this winter either….

  • As long as they never get rid of the Panino Tuscano. I’ll never figure out how they get onions to do that…

  • I agree Greg, Panino Tuscano is my absolute fav! I can’t wait to try it with the curried tempeh salad next time!
