    zpizza with vegan daiya cheese

it’s finally happened. zpizza, a national pizza chain, has decided to get rid of their casein-laden soy cheese and roll out pies covered in daiya, making vegan pizza available to the masses. from LA, to manhattan…from santa clarita to montana, zillions of vegans across the united states will be able to dig into that familiar box of home-delivered goodness. zpizza has started serving vegan pizza at their west hollywood outlet, and over the next several weeks should be selling it in all 68 locations throughout the country.

in case you were wondering, daiya is a vegan cheese that has been taking los angeles (and the rest of the country) by storm. it stretches and melts almost exactly like real cheese, and it doesn’t contain soy. it has even gotten the attention of whole foods, who have started using it on pizzas in their prepared foods section. …and zpizza is a national chain serving up organic and healthy style pizza that tastes like authentic delivery. they have been serving a non-vegan soy cheese as a healthy alternative to regular dairy, but are swiftly replacing it. yes!

since hearing about zpizza’s plan to offer daiya, we have been regularly tracking their status (almost daily if you can believe it!). we didn’t expect it to hit LA so soon, but today we called the west hollywood location and found out they had “the new vegan cheese” in stock. we headed over and skeptically asked to see the new cheese. they brought a large bag from behind the counter of daiya italian shreds, and we were in business. we specified NOT to use any of the old non-vegan soy cheese on our pizza, and they assured us that they would be using the vegan cheese from now on. for safety though, even at the weho zpizza, you should confirm that what you are getting on your pizza is indeed daiya.

make sure you get a receipt that says you are vegan, y'all!

after eating this for dinner, i can tell you that the marriage of zpizza and daiya is a fucking beautiful thing. zpizza has a 650 degree oven that melts the cheese like none other. the crust and sauce at zpizza have always been a favorite of mine, and the toppings are as fresh as they come. the fact that a national chain is offering vegan pizza this good is absolutely mind-blowing. it’s fast, it’s convenient, it’s consistent, and it’s VEGAN. seriously, i never thought i’d see the day!

after flipping out and doing a happy dance over my vegan pizza, i called the other local zpizza locations to see if they had the goods as well. larchmont village, burbank, woodland hills, and santa clarita are still serving non-vegan soy cheese for now…although most of the locations assured me that they would have the new vegan cheese next week. zpizza claims that all of their locations will be serving a 100% vegan option within the next 6-8 weeks. until then, head over to the weho location and ask them for some vegan pizza. you won’t be sorry.

  • Most encouraging! (Wonder what the calorie-load on this stuff is…?)

  • Scottm: WHO CARES?!

  • Oh SNAP, one is opening in San Francisco soon! Also, there’s one where my parents live, whee!

  • wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee i’m so excited and i just can’t hide it….YOU’RE NOT YANKIN’ OUR CHAINS ARE YOU?!

  • yay, i can get it here in PHX too!

  • This is such great news!! I have at least 2-3 zpizzas nearby. Woohoo! Glad to hear so many places are getting on the daiya bandwagon. πŸ˜€

  • so much vegan pizza news in the last few months.. what a great time to be alive!

  • I just called the one in Westlake. They don’t have it yet but the gal that answered the phone said that lots of people are calling about it. I can’t wait!

  • LOL @ Alex…I was just thinking the same thing! πŸ™‚

  • Such great news!

  • mars candy supports cruelty.
    zpizza supports meat producers.
β€œmeat is murder,” according to your banner.
so isn’t promoting zpizza supporting murder?

  • miss anthrope

observer: i still eat at restaurants that serve meat. check out most of the places i review, not all are vegetarian restaurants.

i would love to eat all vegetarian restaurants, but i don’t know of one that serves daiya pizza.

until then, i will support the VEGAN options at zpizza.

the reason i don’t eat skittles is because they are actually tested on animals…i believe.

  • I’m so excited because Z Pizza is SO FUCKING GOOD. Their roasted garlic sauce haunts my dreams.

  • i would love to eat all vegetarian restaurants, but i don’t know of one that serves daiya pizza.

So you’ll support companies that serve dead animals…

just not those that test on them…

    all for a fake cheese.

    Priorities?

  • Observer:

I think Quarrygirl’s function here is to inform readers of vegan dining options in Los Angeles and elsewhere.

I think she’s reporting rather than supporting.

  • please suck my weiner. no one will. πŸ™

  • Sorry Observer.

The only weiner action you’ll get on this blog is at the Franken stand.

  • When I read this I started hopping around and squealing! I am SO excited! I was uber bummed when I found out Z Pizza didn’t have vegan cheese because their pizzas are SO delicious. I am in love with the Berkley Soy Cheese Veggie (… I wonder what the new name will be?! Berkley Daiya Cheese? :D) and their roasted garlic sauce is THE ULTIMATE. I can’t wait for it to come to Orange County! Thank you so much for the information!

  • @stephendavis02

No one at any of the DC suburban areas (NOVA) had any idea what I was talking about. I’m moving away from this place

  • Larchmont has it now. I got mushroom, tomato and garlic on Friday night. Crust was crispy throughout, despite the fact we got the XL.

I love the Diablo sauce at Purgatory, but it’s a long drive for me, and surprisingly Z is better in every other way.

  • Like most hardcore, self-righteous, obnoxious vegans, I’m going to do this for 5 to 10 years – then back to the barbeque!
